His old man bones can't deal with boxing anymore. He tried doing the same with Dawson in the 1st fight. Retire old man, 52 years old is waay too old to compete in boxing. I had Joe up 5-2 before the stoppage.
This. Hopkins should've stayed retired. He was lucky to survive with Kovalev, but his ego caught up with him. I remember when he pulled that injury stunt against Dawson. Not this time. It was only a matter of time.
And he's claiming he hurt his ankle when he landed on his back with his ankles in the air. How Tf did he hurt his ankle hahaha. Excuses. He wanted out of the fight
Bernard Hopkins in being an ***hole shocker. Can't we just celebrate his HOF career and wish him a peaceful retirement?
He didnt want out. He just couldnt accept the loss so started with the excuses. He has always lacked class when it comes to these sorts of things.
That left hook rocked his world man.. Glad to see Bhop call it quits for reals, because he's clearly shot! Great ko win for Joe smith.
Yeah I had only given Hops two rounds also. That time out of the ring is a killer once you get older. His defensive timing wasn't sharp. He slips all those shots two years ago. That's why Kovalev couldn't KO him. He still has the stubborn pride also. Smith landed a right hand to his ear, Hopkins leaned back the other way in the ropes off balance, and leaned even further when Smith kept punching. He wasn't pushed, it was the grazing shot, paired with him leaning away into the ropes like he was that caused him to go all the way through. Fell on that big nugget, got up, but instead of climbing back into the ring, said his ankle was hurt a la the Allen fight. I didn't see his ankle hit anything. He landed on his head, neck and upper shoulders. Sucks to end his career like that. We were all waiting for that second half rally, but, it's boxing. Old fighter whose defensive timing is off, and isn't being aggressive enough offensively to keep the young guy off of him, is a recipe for disaster. Hops did some good stuff. He showed an all time great chin as well, but I think he under-estimated Smith. Smith still seems a bit raw, but turns out is no chump. I like his upside, if he can get in with a top level trainer, and spend more time in the gym. He has power, and seems to have some reach. Hopefully he got a nice enough pay day that he can focus on boxing more instead of working his union job. He'd be a beast if he could live in the gym.
Hopkins claimed the ankle excuse scheming for the fight to be ruled a no-contest on the grounds he was pushed out and suffered an ankle injury. LOL!
He did it his way he had two choices get KTFO in the ring or make a grand exit out of the ring. He did his way back hopped out the ring.
He got "pushed" into the highlight reels for years to come. Maybe he should phone Hasim Rahman and they can have a little therapy session.
