It's as symbolic as can be. Definitely not sorry for him, certainly not due to his reaction afterwards.
Hm. I was expecting half of everyone on this forum to be talking about the Phantom Push. Looks like a punch drunk Hopkins is dumber than many of the folks on here. Denial is heavy. Nobody likes losing. I get it. But you're Bernard Freakin' Hopkins. Tonight exemplified everything about why Hopkins is such an annoyance to many of us. Like another thread stated, he's respected greatly by all but loved by a relative few.
No, because it looked to me like he deliberately threw himself out of the ring, there was not a clean punch landed yet he flies backwards out of the ring. Bizarre behaviour from him, maybe he has taken too many punches in his career and has lost his mind.
No. He has always been a sore loser he at the very least is a Bigot and his fights were often boring where he clinched, head butted, grabbed, wrestled, and faked low blows in fights to try and stop the action. He also quit in two fights.
Hey! Marcos Maidana possesses those traits and nobody would accuse him of having been boring. EDIT: Not the quitting part. But quitting twice? Those are rookie numbers for Victor Ortiz... and nobody would accuse him of having been boring!
I did indeed LOL when he crashed out of the ring.....LOL'd even more when after landing on his head and his ankles were waving in the air above him that he claimed to have hurt his ankle. The man is a sore loser and a LIAR. Glad he goes off into the sunset to retire on a KO loss.
A racist cleanly KOd by a white boy in his last fight, a racist who apparently never loses to white boys.... A fitting end to his career, unless he refuses to accept it, and fights a bum so he can finish his career with a win. The boxing version of Britain's Diane Abbott.
I will never feel sorry for a multi millionaire, he paid the price for overreaching and that's the way it goes. At the end of the day, he will go and get the best of care, then go his multi million dollar house and be greeted by his wife, relax and reflect on his life and say job well done because he came from nothing. Hell naw, I don't feel sorry for him.
the boxing gods looked down on Hopkins and said fcuk off, not this time old man. he got away with being old in boxing for too long, he tempted fate and paid the price with his ego.
The majority of fighters end up losing their last bout because of age. It's normal. It's for that reason that I also don't feel sorry for him. Regardless of falling out, he wasn't going to be able to get up from that KD. Hopkins obviously didn't throw himself out of the ring or anything like that. Look at the replays. He was badly hurt from the right hands and the left hook and his legs went out from underneath him, right foot slipped and out he slipped. Loose ropes. Also the stuff about him being bigoted is ridiculous. He said one controversial thing to promote a fight, and people with extremely sensitive skin just can't get over it. It's not as if there's a history of lynching and slavery etc associated with someone calling someone a "white boy". Context is everything. Kovalev's called an opponent a "thoroughbred ******" before but there's not nearly as many people bringing that up in threads about him. None of that **** has nothing to do with the actual boxing.
he was managing to do it for longer than most though, his success as an older man wasn't normal. it was tempting fate to continue on into his 50s. Bizarre as it sounds I think he could have went out worse, it was almost cartoon like the way he actually went. A paul Williams face plant would have been worse imo. At least he got up even denying it wasn't legit, you cant feel sorry for that, still trying the con lol.
