when you face is planted into the floor of a boxing ring via a devastating punch. that's what I thought anyway
Life is what happens to us while making other plans, last fight was planned by the HBO but the end was different maybe his legacy tarnished by the brutal ending.
Neither of those two are close to HOF level....short term A listers at thier peaks, but BHOP hasnt ever stopped being an A lister...not even at 51.
I voted yes, cause Joe did admit to hitting him after he'd seen he was going thru, and while not illegal, it was intentional, and a very tough way to go out of a fight in which BHOP was very much in, albeit down 4-3 before the KO
He was definitely a divider and not a role model by any means I think he was "out" after that last punch had a concussion when he hit head on the concrete. He woke up momentarily after that and spoke non-sense
I feel sorry for his balls. They're suppose to be private but Hopkins had to showed to the whole world....poor balls.
I feel the same way about Hopkins as he would feel about me. And Hopkins doesn't give a hoot about me, nor would he if the tables were turned.
What makes me laugh is the hype around it. Like HBO saying "tune in to watch the final fight of the legendary Bernard Hopkins" Like they tried so hard to give us chills and make it a legendary moment and the dude gets knocked out lmao.
I agree that Lampley in particular really tried hard to sell us on the moment, to a point that it was excessive. Frankly I think it was very difficult for Lampley to get through this night of boxing, because he is friends and colleagues with Hopkins. I want to first say that I like Jim Lampley a lot and respect him as a commentator, but I have to say that he made an incredible amount of mistakes throughout the broadcast, even during the undercards. (like for example he referred to Joe Diaz Jr as "Garcia" twice in a row then corrected himself) Lampley seemed to lose his focus and concentration throughout the broadcast, and when he did the B Hop tributes during the first two fights before the main event they were ill timed to say the least. (like during the Usyk and Diaz fight he would randomly start bringing up moments from Hopkins career during rounds, and it was really distracting to the fight I was watching) So, in that sense yeah they were really hyping up Hopkins final fight, especially Lampley. And to top it all off, Lampley brings up Fat Dan of all people at the start of the 8th round, talking about how in the U.K. while covering Brook Golovkin, that Fat Dan and B Hop sat down and discussed who Hopkins should fight as his last night, basically saying Fat Down helped B Hop choose Smith Jr. And right as he said that Hopkins got KTFO while Lampley was blabbing on about how Fat Down basically convinced Hopkins to choose Smith Jr. Many things about this broadcast were awkward, but I still thought it an incredibly entertaining show, as all 3 fights were good and the main event certainly didn’t lack drama that’s for sure.
He's not permanently affected and he's rich so no. Not everyone goes out a winner still a legend but not a humble one.
