I wouldn't write GGG off but Smith is hella big and strong. At a certain point p4p skills start to give way to sheer size and strength. Let's say 60-40 Smith. At least until we've seen Golovkin in against bigger guys.
Cotto and Canelo are the around the same height 5ft7.5ish, Canelo is just a bit thicker no more than 7-10lbs, GGG was more likely 15lbs bigger than Brook Canelo is the same build as Lemieux just shorter and more muscular. Lemieux looked like a Welterweight fighting GGG, Canelo would look the same I know everyone has a bit of bias and I admit I do as well in certain circumstances like with CEJ being more promise than actual resume but he's just a baby, he didn't have an amateur career and only started boxing in his late teens. GGG though is clearly a huge middleweight, he's a much bigger bloke than Abraham thats for damn sure. He would match up well against all but the hugest 168lbers size wise.
If a welterweight can lift him of the floor with a punch, Joe Smith might knock his head clean off. No point in even discussing this yet since GGG ain't going to 175 anytime soon.
It's the truth, GGG is huge and looks like a tank compared to the average middleweight. Only weight bullys like Martin Murray looked like they were from the same division as him when they were in the ring.
Martin Murray was heavier than him, Monroe, Lemieux, Rubio, Geale, were all heavier than him on fight night. GGG never missed weight and his highest weigh in to date was 161, unlike his most other peers at MW who all weighed in around 165-170 in the past. Until you show us some proof, you're just an idiot who's taking out of his ass.
GGG has been fighting for titles for a long time, you have to make weight to fight for titles. He's still a huge guy come fight night, much bigger than Lemieux and Willie the worm
And even for a non title bout, his highest weigh in was 161, unlike most others. Both Lemieux and Monroe was heavier than him. Weight matters, not height. You're just butthurt about how easy It is for him to dominate in the division where your hero barely made it to top10.
Lemieux, the guy who has more trouble than anyone not named Quillin at making MW, looked like a welterweight. okay
Maybe he's just terrible at cutting weight or needs a dietitian but he looks like he could make 154lbs if he was dedicated. Very similar build to Canelo just a bit higher bf% GGG obviously makes him look even smaller though
CEJ pisses me off, the guy has the tools to be a superstar he's just a bit to eccentric like his old man. If he got a real manager and a better career plan the sky would be the limit. He's only just turned 27 though so he could still get there, but he's taking a bit of a frustrating path. This Quinlan fight is a joke, and putting on PPV is even worse
James5000, criticize GGG for what you like, but he is NOT a big middleweight. We all have seen the weigh ins. We know the weights. Why do you want to embarrass yourself like this?
I think GGG beats most of 168 but I don't think he can compete at 175. He is too short and small frame. One level up is good, 2 would be tough.
That fight on the weekend wasn't so much a reflection of how good Smith is, but more of how far Hopkins has slipped in his old age. I'm sure Smith is decent enough; strong and durable, good puncher and he boxes just well enough to keep coming forward without getting hit too badly against lesser opposition. However i'm pretty sure Smith would fall short at top level. For any size difference Golovkin is a class above Smith and would surely carry much of his power up in weight. For any natural size advantage Smith would have, I'm fairly sure Golovkin would still hit him too often and too hard and would likely stop him at some point. Failing that Golovkin would surely outbox him.
