People need to be very careful about threatening & harassing people online. I remember on the old Prodigy boxing forum A guy started harrassing the women on there & threatening people. A guy Cajun told him to quit & that led to a rampage of threats against Cajun. Well what the idiot didn't know was that someone messaged Cajun & told him where he lived. He was most surprised a few days later when Cajun knocked on his door lol He was terrified as Cajun was a Lt Heavyweight fighter & had a fight face that was scarey. The guy even offered Cajun $$$ not to hurt him LOL Of course he had no intention of touching him just scare him He sure did that. Had no more problems with him, lol

To Black Cloud: Hopkins in my opinion of watching and studying boxing ( I've seen over 1,000 boxing matches and could rate as a historian ) is this. He's a very good fighter but overrated. IMO Toney, Jones, GGG, Calzaghe, and Kovalev are better @160, @168, and @ 175.

The best thing Hopkins him is longevity, but his style had something to do with that. He had a decent counter punch, decent body shot, but he was never fast or powerful. In fact he had issues with speed and power vs his best opponents.

Are you telling he wasn't a dirty fighter in the ring, actually beat a natural middleweight with top ability, or took his losses like man? Didn't he say somre racists things?

Middleweights that Hopkins beat that would have beat Taylor, if Taylor was around back then include, Allen, Echols, Eastman, Trinidad, Johnson, and Holmes. There is a reason that Lou DiBella kept Taylor well clear of Robert Allen when the old veteran was calling for the fight, while Taylor was going the distance with 154 pounders that he outweighed by more than 10 pounds in the ring.

The Taylor rematch and the Calzaghe fight should have both been Hopkins UD wins.

Calling Trinidad a blown up fighter holds no weight. He was not a small middleweight, and he beat the sh!t out of Williams Joppy, and Hacine Cherifi, two top 10 middleweights of the time. He wasn't like De La Hoya who lost to Felix Sturm, but got a gift decision.

 

I agree with a lot of what Mendoza is saying and fully get why he finds Hopkins distateful.

However, he is an ATG.

People love to pour salt and using stats is one way but stats don't deal with the totality of an athlete. Hopkins is a great fighter, ATG, and a bonafide legend. He defended his MW title 20 times and that was unheard of in that division, That makes him great. He never had any problems making the middleweight limit and as a matter of fact when he moved up, he consulted specialist to put on that extra weight. He ranks among the very best that ever did it at MW and that makes him an ATG, He has created inspiring and legendary moments in boxing that will be talked about and replayed throughout time. That makes him a legend.
