I agree Parker has been the heavyweight that has fought the best opposition this year. Joshua is the stand out heavyweight talent still, but he has yet to step up like Parker and I'll take quality of opposition over looking good beating weak opposition.
Wilder in exactly 12 months beat Stiverne , Molina , Duhaplas and Spilka. Where's his HW of the year award?
Charles Martin: 25 fights 1 draw to Morales and 1 loss to Joshua Andy Ruiz: 30 fights (more fights) and 1 loss to Parker Ruiz also beat Morales the boxer Martin drew with.
The year is 2016. Some of those fights were in 2015. I dont think Wilders had 5 fights this year, Joseph has. Hes fought more times this year of the current world champions. Its been good for us fans and the boxing world in that hes made sure theres always a fight to watch.
It's a very fair point to say Parker hasn't fought opponents picked to make him look good, whereas AJ has been spoon fed boxers to make him look great. I know who I think has been given the better grounding, although I'm not saying Parker is better, he is better prepared for the tougher fights both will face in 2017.
Not this year. He might have been HW FOTY for 2015 if Tyson Fury hadn't shocked the world by dethroning Wlad, but that's not relevant to this thread.
Parker has fought better opponents but Joshua has looked better in the ring. The win over Ruiz gets him the heavyweight fighter of the year. No problem with that.
Yes we know Parker has faced better opponents than Joshua this year, but we also know Parker struggled with these guys, that's why the Parker hype train has gone very quiet recently. Would Parker have beaten Joshua's opponents in the same way he did? I doubt it.
Probably, Breazeale is the only one who could cause any problems. The other two came to lie down. I do think Joshua would have beaten Parker's opponents more convincingly, though.
Don't rate him. Look's ordinary... Some of his wins are questionable affairs too. Nothing special at all...
