How is it gone? All of the major belt holders are 6'4+.... With two being 6'6+ Fury is 6'9....

 

Nowadays the boxers that were called Super Heavyweights are just called Heavyweights, so in that regard the stupid boring name has been dropped.
The size has stayed about the same, so not much change there.

 

I don't think the super heavyweight era will ever end unless a MEGA heavyweight era starts 7'2 300 pound monsters who are quicker stronger faster and more skilful then ever before I made a thread about it once I should bump it

I don't get why they created all the lilliputian divisions with difference of only 3 pounds (Fing ridiculous) and they still haven't considered making a SHW division. Heavyweights of today are so much bigger. There's so much BS around fighters lik GGG, Canelo, catchweights ... yet HW can fight at a FIFTY pound disadvantage. It's like boxing is geared for tiny boys.

 

That always has been, even back in the old days. Can you imagine lil' Bob Foster vs Muhammad Ali? Well, that sh_t happened!
Heavyweight is an open class, that's what made it so historically significant.

Besides, Heavyweight being an open class doesn't mean fighter's managers and promoters forget about size all of a sudden. A Cruiser moving up can choose what size heavyweight he wants to fight. If he wants a title these days, chances are it's going to be against a king-sized one, but them's the breaks.

Before the Cruiserweight division, career heavyweights would still fight 185-205 lb guys for the majority of their fights. A career Cruiserweight today who only has a handful of fights in the open class is actually a pretty good representation of how career Heavyweights used to be guided. Match your man up against a fighter with a significant size advantage on him if the larger man was a scrub or there was enough to gain to justify the risk.
