People talk a lot of **** about the old boys, but imagine if Marciano and Louis took roids and other performance enhancers like they do now. Marciano would be 210 lbs like Tyson, Louis 230 odd and a tank. They wouldn't be worse. They just fought in a clean era.
Right then you realize you don't know what the hell you are talking about. There were 220 pound boxers when Marciano fought and if that was his natural weight he would of fought at that weight. If putting on 40 pounds was so easy to do for somebody who is 5'10 why don't ever 175 pound fighter now just do that? Tyson was 220 pounds because that was his natural weight. Louis was 200 pounds because that is his natural weight. Rocky Marciano was 180 pounds because that is his natural weight. Marciano would fight at light heavyweight today and get knocked out by fighters like Stevenson and Kovalev. Joe Louis was 6'2 so he could put on a little weight but it wouldn't effect he has a glass chin so he would get knocked out by anybody who has skilled and could punch.
todays top heavys at 6.5 to 6.8 have huge advantages in weight and size over the top 1920 to 1950 fighters with a few exceptions like primo carnera. to use an anology if the superbowl winners of 2015 played the winners of 1950 who would win ?
Who did Marciano beat? 40 year old Jersey Joe Walcott and Joe Louis? What we do know is 177 pound Ted Lowry not only beat Marciano but almost knocked him out and toyed with him. http://boxrec.com/media/index.php?title=Fight:19970 Roland Lastarza a 180 pounder beat him in their first fight. http://boxrec.com/media/index.php/Rocky_Marciano_vs._Roland_LaStarza_(1st_meeting) But you believe a much quicker and a much harder puncher in Stevenson couldn't do it? If Marciano was alive today he wouldn't even try to box. He would realize how pathetic he was and chose another sport. Any half way decent Light heavyweight like Oleksandr Gvozdyk, Artur Beterbiev, Kovalev, Stevenson, would destroy Marciano. Never mind any half way decent heavyweight. I know some people have no lives and just need to believe in something. It could be like black people needing to believe nobody could beat Tyson when we know that isn't true or white people needing Marciano to be there hero because he is white. But in the real world I live in Marciano was a joke and wasn't a top 1000 heavyweights of all time because he wasn't a heavyweight and never beat one.
Clearly the 1950's team would win because you know. It is back in the day. Just like fighter planes from back in the day would beat current fighter planes because everything back in the day is better. But you are kind of wrong about the top heavyweights being 6'5 to 6'8. Fury is bum, Wilder is a bum, Joshua is a bum. Most to heavyweights today are still round 6'2 to 6'4/
164 pound Darnell Boone flattened Stevenson so you don't think a 180 pound Marciano couldn't do the same? I never saw the first Lastarza fight, how did you score it? Marciano has beaten Moore and Charles two of the best LHW fighters in history. He also managed to beat a couple of heavier guys which is something Stevenson has never ever done. And you think he's gonna struggle with a 39 year old who's been flattened by a 164 pound fighter and has routinely avoided the toughest fights in the division? Behave yourself. Who cares who the top 1000 HW fighters are, we're talking LHW here.
They would still be too small, Povetkin is roided to the gills and atleast as tall as both and wouldn't last more than a couple rounds against AJ and Wilder, a 300lbs out of shape Tyson Fury would manhandle him. Size matters
in my top 10 i only have povetkin at 6.2 and haye at 6.3 . the last 15 years have been dominated by 6.6 wlad / 6.5 lewis/6.8 vitali. haye when in with the 6.6 fighter in wlad could not find a way inside because he was not willing to take risks and he is mobile and has good speed. as to calling all todays fighters bums the great heavyweights of yesteryear were good fighters but had the advantage of only having to face domestic american opposition. a couple of brits /odd german / but basically if you were the best in america you were the best in the world. now boxing is a lot more worldwide and from having a monopoly there is now much more comp.
The problem is people like to compare exact for exact. What they need to do is take in to account the natural skill level of these old time fighters and try to imagine how good they would be with all the modern training and sciences that are involved at the top of the sport these days. Ofcourse if you cant open your minds enough to do that to give a fair comparison then you shouldnt really be talking about such fantasy matchups in the 1st place. Not to mention what actual division some of these fighters would actually end up in cuz some wouldnt even be classed as heavyweights.
I've had plenty of people **** on me for saying this, but the fighter of today is ten fold better than the fighter of yesterday. Mike Tyson and Ali would've got their **** pushed in by a top 10 fighter of today. Strategy, training, technique, preparation, nutrition, PEDs, etc. It all gets better and better every day. Experience also matters a lot (decades of training), so older fighters can still stay competitive with younger fighters, but it has its limits.
Ive seen both those fights and Marciano easily won them both. I got no clue where your'e going with this line of reasoning, except I agree he'd campaign at LHW or CW where he wouldnt be the best of the best with his crudish style. His best chance to win a title would be vs the limited Stevenson who is a one punch fighter, and Marciano would gladly taste Stevenson L to his jaw to land 3 on Stevensons waistline causing him to pee himself in the ring while lying on the canvas gasping for air.
