That's because 75% of our judges can't even score a 10/9 correctly to this day

A lot of those fights were bad. I actually thought Garcia beat Peterson tho. Of course it was Peterson's fault for not throwing enough. But for sure I agree with Kovalev and Scott should have won.

But im just telling you what they teach judges. 10-10 should be rare. Too many are a sign of not focusing enough.

Khan - Maidana had a round (round 10 or 11?) where all 3 judges scored it 10-8. Maidana was utterly dominant and hurt Khan alot though.

When all a guy does is run and stall, I award the guy coming forward attempting exchanges a 10-8 round. When I saw De La Hoya running from Trinidad I started scoring 10-8s in Trinidad's favor and wound up scoring the fight for him. If a guy is actively running from you, that's domination. What it really should be is disqualification but if the ref won't do anything I think the judge should. Like in Ortiz vs Scott.

What we really need is more 10-10 rounds to avoid all these robberies in close fights. You have guys scoring blow outs against their opponents for landing a punch more a round or just looking confident.

that was a good example of a proper 10-8 round.

duran vs leonard one judge had it 3 rounds Duran , 2 leonard and TEN even. 10 even rounds

That was italian judge Angelo Poletti. He only did 5 or 6 fights after that and managed to get a whole lot more even rds in those fights. He should have changed his name to Even Steven.

There have been instances in which rounds are completely dominant that I scored 10-8. Kovalev vs Hopkins round 12 is one I remember and I read Vitali vs Briggs round 8 in here which I also scored 10-8 indeed.
10-10 rounds are a bit more common for me, and I believe actually adds to the fairness of the scorer.
Often I see very close rounds and people in the RBR acknowledge that by mentioning how very close that round was... and then almost every single one ends up giving that round to the guy they're rooting for.
Scoring those rounds even would change many scorecards for the better.

    I disagree with this.
What you mean is you usually give plenty of close rounds ( those "could have gone the other way" type rounds) to a fighter, 10-9.
Also, when a fighter CLEARLY outclasses and schools his opponent, you usually give it 10-9.

Personally I think 10-10 rounds should be the standard default. A fighter has to win the round convincingly to get it 10-9. I mean, not total domination but clear enough that you couldn't say someone having the opposite score is arguable.

That's the problem with some of these arguments about close decisions, people are scoring a lot of rounds one way and admitting it's possible to score it the opposite way.
Surely, that's what 10-10 rounds are for.

Yeah, there needs to be a judging overhaul and a shift to scoring any 'dominant' rounds 10-8. Not just rounds in which one guy didn't land a punch and did nothing but take a horrible beating for the whole round, like those few cases mentioned. When one fighter may get hit a few times, but badly outlands the other over the round, schools him, and has him often pretty defenceless, though he might not have him hurt. Like the 7th round of Lomachenko-Walters. That would like you said better reflect how a fight goes, rather than strict rounds scoring.

Shouldn't be any change towards more 10-10 rounds, they should never be used.

A 10-8 round is defined by one fighter being completely dominating the opponent and hitting them with a lot of heavy and scoring shots with very little coming back in return. Often the opponent on the end of such a 10-8 round, is almost knocked out or has an iron chin.

In terms of 10-10 rounds I very rarely score any round as such- just because there is usually enough of a difference in scoring shots in the target area and ring dominance to score it one way or the other. Its only really applicable if both fighters posture around the ring doing nothing other than the odd pitter patter jab.

Mayweather, Jr vs Gatti. 2,3,6 were all 10-8 rounds, 2 was a bit iffy but still.

Mayweather, Jr vs Pacquiao. Round 1 was 10-8

There's too many variables and opinions in boxing judging.
Bringing more 10-8 rounds with out knock down into it just makes boxing judging more controversial.
It should be 10-9 unless knock down. Knock down should be rewarded with a 10-8.
