To be fair, it can be read both ways.
    In the absence of commas.

"goes the distance, with Joe winning the vast majority of rounds"
"goes the distance with Joe, winning the vast majority of rounds"

Yeah I can see how it would read that way but also why I left out a comma.

I suppose it's fair enough to doubt that Mercer gets stopped.
But then it's fair to doubt he goes the distance too.

I think pressure is more likely to stop a guy like Mercer than sheer size and power though. There's no doubt the man took a punch. Not sure he'd cope with Frazier's pace though.

But seriously, this guy's not doing well against prime Joe Frazier :

Frazier by decision but if it is 15 Rounds Mercer may retire on stool from punishment and fatigue. Pretty much no one knocks out a
    Prime and fit Mercer

That's what I think. A man like Frazier was leagues above Mercer in an all time sense, but Ray was the type of guy who could linger in there with anybody to the final bell even if hopelessly behind on points.

Its not out of the question that he could get TKO'd. But I also think his power could also hurt frazier too, perhaps taking some of that pressure off of him.

If Mercer bothers to train, he still loses but Frazier ends up with a puffy face.

It mostly depends if Ray bothers with the jab

But Bonavena fought a much better, more effective and smarter fight than the limited, straight ahead Chuvalo. Marching straight into Joe Frazier was the way to get butchered, beat up and ko'ed. Oscar was a limited fighter,..a head case who blew it in the 2nd round of their 1st fight, but otherwise, gave Frazier more to think about than Chuvalo, even in losing that 15 round rematch. He gave Frazier angles, had better control of distance, covered up well, and wasn't averse to retreating and fighting off the back foot vs the ever aggressive Smokin' Joe. Bonavena utilized his greater strength and awkwardness and wasn't the "dumb" fighter that many pegged him as.

Frazier chops up, wears down and tko's the tough Mercer by the 10th or 11th IMO.

You said that bowe avoided mercer cause mercer is such a big puncher, and now you pick frazier who is not known for his chin to beat an iron chinned monster puncher?
    You'r a hypocrite

Also you like to bring size and lbs when talking about marciano, how about 205 frazier vs 235 solid thick mercer who gave lewis hell and ate his punches no problem?

at 235 mercer was fat, frazier weighed 209 1/2 in his peak against bob foster and looked perfect. mercer was in perfect shape at 220 at 29 against bert cooper look at his body, he looked solid, muscular and not a pig with overweight.
