Alvarez is currently 26 and 5'9 and in his prime. Mugabi in 1986 was 26 and 5'9. Mugabi who fought Hagler was a beast but he was never the same after there fight. Who would win if they fought each other when they were 26 ?
I'll be in the minority here...but Canelo for me. Doesn't hit nearly as hard as Mugabi, probably not quite as tough (on the night he faced Hagler) but much more defensively proficient, footwork, and combinations. He outpoints Mugabi...and stops post Hagler Mugabi...IMO.
He already destroyed Kirkland and Angulo. Mugabi wouldn't see the final bell. There's a long thread on this that was done maybe six months ago.
Quite honestly NoNeck, I don't agree because I don't see Angulo or Kirkland lasting 11 with even the post prime version of Hagler that Mugabe fought. Maybe Canelo could out box Mugabi, but stop him? I just don't see it.
Kirkland and Angulo both are heavy handed guys, but they are far away from the quality of Mugabi in every single aspect including, yes, power.
Mugabi never even went the distance with a good fighter. It would be a first if he lasted with Canelo, who is good.
Mugabi's raw power and bullying ability edge out even Jacobs. I feel as thought Mugabi could make Canelo very defensive minded. Mugabi, before broken by Hagler, had a solid chin too Might take Canelo by the skin of his teeth on a decision. Mostly due to beautiful head movement
Mugabi's claim to fame is getting beaten to a bloody pulp by Hagler for 11 rds. The rest of his "legendary " ko record is a who's who of journeymen and professional cans lined up to be crushed
