Let's see, who did Buster Douglas ever KO ? Who did he ever even knock down ? Who did he have hanging on in sheer survival mode ? Or does it even matter ? Let's just ask Oliver McCall or some other crack head.
Oliver mccall crackhead who fought lewis x2, sparred tyson for years etc... Guess his word doesn't mean ****
Douglas's best opponents ( Tyson, McCall, Page, Berbick, and Cobb ) were all pretty durable fighters. Being taken the distance by some of those guys wasn't particularly unusual.
And how does it prove Douglas was a harder puncher than Ali ? I suppose a KO of Tyson and going 10 with Berbick suggests better power than KOing Foreman and Lyle, TKOing Frazier ? etc.
No, to be fair, he remembers getting hit hard by Douglas. So, what's your point ? Does this mean Douglas hit harder than Tyson and Lewis ? Is that your opinion ?
Maybe the 8 round decision against David Jaco on the undercard of Spinks-Holmes 2 proves Douglas was a harder puncher than Ali ..... This content is protected
Yes, because you have nothing. The idea that Douglas was a bigger puncher than Ali is simply incorrect. There's no basis. His KO of Tyson was a great one but Ali has a KO of Foreman so they kind of puts it into perspective, doesn't it.
Actually the argument BEGAN with you claiming Frazier having a better chin than Tyson which I said early on was equally without basis.
It is with a basis. The fact that Frazier took comparable punishment and was only stopped by ATGs. And even in Manila he was ready and willing to go the 15t rounds. My claim was also a response to the statement (ticar) that Frazier's chin was "not half as good as Tyson's".
Well I don't buy the notion that Frazier's chin was only HALF as good as Tyson's. I concur that that was a ludicrous statement... but I don't think there's any conclusive evidence that Frazier's chin was better than Tyson's and the reason I don't is because Tyson at least showed that he could take some hard shots on the chin from legit punchers. Frazier never did. He got destroyed early by the one and only elite puncher he faced, while Tyson's chin stood up to the power of Ruddock, Smith, Bruno and a few others.. Now granted those men don't hit as hard as Foreman, but they definitely hit harder than Frazier's second tier opponents.. So basically to sum things up, Frazier lost badly to the hardest hitting fighter he ever faced while either surviving or prevailing against men who weren't as hard as some of Tyson's.. what's missing for me is the "middle".. How would his chin do against someone who could hit as hard as Ruddock, Bruno, Smith, etc, and over many rounds as Tyson's did in some of those fights? We just don't know.. Of course Tyson was stopped late By Douglas while Frazier was stopped late by Ali.. So who hit harder between Ali and Douglas? I'm guessing Douglas, but frankly I don't think it matters one way or the other.. Those losses occurred late in fights as the result of sustained beatings that might have also had more to do with things like stamina, mental resolve, arena conditions, and not so much to do with the actual pounds of pressure that the opponent was dealing in a single punch... It should also be noted that Thrilla in Manilla was a TWO way beating where both fighters were having their moments, where as Tyson vs Douglas was pretty one sided.. So at the end of the day my position stands... Tyson chin vs Frazier's chin = inconclusive.
imo Tyson had a better chin than Frazier, he fought several big punchers.Frazier did not, the only one of top echelon he fought used him as a yo yo.
Tyson was stopped by lesser punchers. Douglas and Holyfield had Tyson in a terrible mess. I've already argued these points. Watch a past prime Frazier in Manila getting hit by Ali's best shots. Tyson would have been destroyed by that punishment long before Frazier who was only pulled out at the end of the 14th.
