I agree although Tyson did seem to handle single big shots better. Tyson without a doubt would have folded in the FOTC and the TIM after taking such a drubbing.
Well, the truly elite fighters are always going to bring more than single big shots, so that's only helpful against limited opposition. It's worth pointing out Joe Frazier was never beaten with a big single shot. In fact, far from it.
Plus people miss the fact that Tyson was hurt in the 2nd round against Holyfield in their first fight by one punch and was staggered against Bruno early on with a single shot.
Everyone's going to be hurt by single shots sometimes at heavyweight. Stunned, staggered, floored, wobbled, whatever, it will happen to everyone at the world class level. Frazier and Tyson both had great chins. But if we have to seperate them, Frazier proved himself the superior.
I'm just pissing all over the myth that Tyson could only be hurt after a prolonged beating, it just isn't true......
I agree. Of course it's not true. There are a lot of myths. The myth that Buster Douglas was some sort of puncher has shown up on this thread. His power was average for a heavyweight "boxer type". If he was a bigger puncher than the likes of Ali or Holmes we would have seen him KOing more fighters and knocking them down.
People just assume he was because he was quite a bit bigger than the pair. I've no doubt he could punch but he was not a big puncher in heavyweight terms tbh.
They can all punch. Douglas wasn't bigger than Ali anyway. You can see that if you watch their fights with Trevor Berbick.
exactly, today people think that being heavier adding mass makes you bigger... your frame is the same with added mass or without it. ali was a very big guy simply at 212 pounds he was faster and had more stamina so it worked for his style, he was skin, slim fibre and bone at 212
Ali was a big man, especially in the 1970s. He weighed 224 1/2 here against Lyle in 1975 and he looked in good shape. The man had a big strong physique. This content is protected
