skins....the carter/collins fight is the one that came to mind when i read the original post. i saw it on live tv. i'm, reasonably sure it was in boston, collins' home town. the tv announcer said, "don't they stop fights here?' the thing that worried me during the fight when tommy was knocked down he mostly fell forward , indicating he was semi conscious ...sometimes a fighter can be knocked out but recover quickly and hear the count of four. an added note, after the fight collins was seen in nightclub dancing with his girlfriend.

 

Some guy used to post on here who was friends with Biggs. He said he wasn't doing coke leading up to the Tyson fight.

In the case of Tyson vs Seldon "fight", the beaten up were the public, the dignity of the sport, and Seldon's reputation ......
I can not recall a case where a fighter has worked so hard to denigrate his own reputation .....

Yes, great shame re Tyrell. He's a good guy. He lacked stamina and strength at the top end of the pro',s and yes, Main Events steered him to the big one quickly.He marked and cut real easy also.He was a great amateur.Still the last American to win the big one at the Olympics. In the Tyson fight he lacked the ammo to keep Mike away, once Mike closed the distance, game over.Tyrell himself says it wasnt responsible for his career going down like some say.He had other fights against top guys.

 

Agree with you entirely - I'd only offer in defense of Dundee: I read where he felt that if he wasn't there (this was after Pacheco had left the entourage and the years following, prior to the Holmes fight), someone else who didn't have Ali's well-being in mind would have stepped in, and the outcome would have been worse. We've all seen the start of the 11th round - Bundini wanted Ali to keep going, but Dundee intervened: "I'm the chief second! I'm stopping the fight!" Ali bore the brunt of responsibility for even considering another fight, but the circus around him (Herbert, Don King, et al) who saw another easy big money payday and encouraged him to head into a slaughter were at fault as well ...

 

Didn't Biggs once fight about 8 rounds with a broken collarbone? I saw that one on TV...I've had a broken
collarbone so I know how insane it would be to fight with a broken wing. I would have sat down and cried.
