Yeah, Roberto Duran is sixty-five and he might still be able to beat Connor. The gap in boxing skill between real boxers and mma fighters is just way too much. I could see a fat Mayweather walking into the ring after five years off and starching him in two.

I told a friend a long time ago that the padding on the glove allows you to punch harder without worrying about hurting your hands. He asked me if I'd like to fight him with jumbo sized extra padded boxing gloves while he fought bare knuckle, and I conceded his point.

Over time, I've come to believe that boxing gloves were introduced mostly to decrease the incidence of cuts which can stop a fight. Cuts still happen, but more often they are the result of headbutts than punches. The way the modern glove has been designed with the thumb sort of sewn to the rest of the glove reduces eye gouging too. You can see how often fights end from eye pokes in mma where it's a real problem.

Also, I once saw a program where they tested punching power with 8 ounce boxing gloves and 4 ounce mma gloves. They generate the same force, because there is the same amount of covering over the knuckles. The missing 4 ounces were over the finger tips which allows an mma fighter to grapple.

Absolutely a factor too, yes - it's like I was saying about your head taking more of the load evenly. Point loads v distributed loads - same force, just differently distributed.

Hadn't really considered that point on the gloves before, but that makes perfect sense.

You agree? Think Conor can whoop them all at once?

Rewind back a couple of years and White was saying similar things about Ronda Rousey vs Floyd.

Not all at once, but in sure he'd have no problem one by one.

Doesn't Floyd have guys like 7 feet tall guarding him?

Skill and technique can only get you so far... One of those guys grabs a small guy like McGregor, and we'll see a reenactment of "Little kid pulls the wings off a fly."

I agree he'd beat Mayweather in a "street fight" though, sure. Although Mayweather would win easily with boxing rules.

Really who gives a **** about a street fight.

I'm sure there would be plenty of guys (and girls) who would spank them both in a street fight..

    Danna is a moron...

Who on earth is going to beat an arguably P4P no.1 UFC fighter who walks around at 175-180lbs?

    Floyd v Conor

    1. Boxing - 100% you know who
    2. MMA Cage - 60/40 CM - Remembering Conor isn't a grappling or submission specialist
    3. Street Fight - 80/20 CM - Conor would probably resort to biting, eye gouging etc just like those grubby irish.
