Duva also turned him loose after working with him for months prior to the Bowe rematch on keeping his punches above the belt line. I remember in an interview Lou mentioned that he suggested to Andrew that he leave boxing and go into tough man fighting contests or something of that nature. His opinion of Golata was not that high
I could certainly see Golata giving both brothers a tough fight early however he was just not stable enough to pull out a win long term.
Not high on mental part probably... He just couldn't handle the heat, he threw everything he had on bowe and couldn't get him out... And some people say bowe had a bad chin lol, yet he endured one of the most vicious beating in the boxing ring
Agreed. There were points where I seriously thought Bowe was going to die in there. But honestly, I think if we turned the clock back five years for Bowe, put Eddie Futch back in his corner and FORCE Golata to keep his hands above the belt, Bowe would have hammered him and probably sooner than later. Golata's performances in those two fights are wrongfully inclining people to place him in the ring with greats. Funny how perception dictates so much in boxing.
Agreed, except for golota perfomances... I think he would give a helluva fight to a lot of good/great fighters, the version from bowe fights.... To me he looked spectacular in there, and not many fighters could have take that kind of beating like bowe did... No way the klitschkos could, and i think he would have landed on them... Just like buster douglas looked spectacular against tyson and imo would have beat a lot of greats that night..
I think Bowe being as badly diminished and without proper direction as he was had a lot to do with Golata looking good. And getting punched repeatedly in the groin took its toll on him over time, giving Andrew more and more of an advantage. Couple that with the fact that the Klits are more technically sound with better defenses, greater height and reach, along with plenty of snap to their shots and I don't think Golata looks anywhere near as good against them as he did with Bowe. And to clarify something, Vitali was certainly very durable when it came to taking hard shots. Maybe not as much as Bowe but certainly more so than Wladimir and a lot of other fighters.
Exactly. Golota felt the ultimate frustration in his rematch with Bowe when he threw everything he had and then some at Bowe and yet "Big Daddy" refused to go down and kept coming back. Bowe showed such heart in this fight, he was ready to die. This was truly a life-and-death war. And Bowe's bravery was such a courageous act. He probably doesn't get enough credit for the great heart he displayed in that rematch. It's up there with the ATGs of the sport who left it all in the ring. While I do not condone low blows, I can see how Golota became frustrated given that from the fourth round of the rematch he was fighting with a broken jaw (many people forget this) and with this kind of injury, it is hard to breathe in the ring, let alone take punches from a punishing force such as "Big Daddy". The truth is either man could have probably gotten killed in that ring in Atlantic City. It was such a brutal war. The Bowe-Golota rematch is underrated, it should be considered among the greatest heavyweight wars of the 90s, and maybe even of all time. The rematch set a Compubox record at the time for most power punches absorbed by a heavyweight (in under nine rounds). For me, it featured probably one of the greatest rounds in heavyweight boxing history. Instead, the Bowe-Golota battles receive negative acclaim. Both are linked more with the negative things that happened such as the post-fight melee. Although, the public in Poland regard the two Bowe-Golota battles as one of the most dramatic fights in boxing history.
Bowe being diminished definitely made golota look better, but nevertheless golota showed good all around skills... Actually golota has the same reach as vitali, and is 6'4 240 in shape, big guy. He doesn't give up a lot in size and is strong enough to not get tie up in the clinch by wlad, and obviously has some tactics in there, head butts, rabbit punches, low blows, you name it ... I think wlad would get terrified frankly. He would go on a panic mode when he realizes what a psycho golota is. Golota defense impressed me more than both klits, he did things i never saw them did... Rolling, slipping, stepping in and out, different angles etc... Really i don't rate the klits much judging by the skills, as i said 1d... I don't rate high vitali's power, couldn't get lewis out of there despite landing good right hands... Lewis who got ktfo twice by right hands... I think he has a bad chin and the fact vitali didn' t drop him down despite landing speaks for itself as far as i'm concered. And golota showed me more in his losing perfomances vs bowe than vitali vs lewis... Vitali's lack of inside game and punch variety is shocking, and looks ugly and awkward as hell, compared how golota looked textbook putting his punches together. Wlad has power but won't fire if everything is not 100% clear, combine that with golota's headmovement and lateral movement.... Honestly i think if you put prime golota instead of peter or haye... He would stop wlad.
Fair enough.. But you're also talking about a guy who panicked and got "terrified" plenty by other fighters as well as got beat by Michael Grant and easily by a diminished Tyson. And I don't think he takes the hammering that guys like Sam Peter took. If dirty tactics is what Golata needs to stand up to an all time great, then it really says a lot about his actual abilities.
He's a mental case, that's for sure... And as i said, i think the bowe fights ruined his confidence... When te going gets tough, golota did low blows, but wlad panicked, and vitali quit against featherfisted byrd and did nothing to stop lewis hammering him on the inside... And i don't think the klits are gonna take golota dirty tactics as bowe did, bowe was a natural fighter, warrior... Klits are more like sport nerds
Um Golota quit too. Very few think Golota who never won a big fight in his life and as often blown our or DQ would defeat either Klitschko.
Wlad needed dirty cheat tactics to stand up to Povetkin, a HW half his size who was nowhere near an all time great. I consider Povetkin to be the best guy Wlad ever fought. When he is unable to use boxing skills to win , it says an awful lot about his actual abilities. Real Greats don't deserve to lose BY DQ 100 times over in their biggest tests. Wlad is a fraud worse than Golota. At least Golota exhibited actual boxing ability during his career. Unless Wlad is faced with cans like Leapai and Pianeta , he looks like absolute junk.
A German once told me that Wladimir was like Michael Schumacher. Meaning he had a huge team around him that helped him win. He isn't even as popular in Germany as one would imagine.
Golota quit against one of the toughest and best hw ever, vitali quit against one of the weakest and featherfisted hw... Wlad was blown away by brewster too. Vitali didn't win his big fights either, byrd and lewis
