Could Marciano make 168lbs if he turned pro today?

So by that logic all fights throughout the history of the sport should be reassessed to make sure both fighters fought in the same division they weighed in at.......

 

How about bring the CW division back down to it's original limit and have the HW limit set to 220lb, that would make anyone over 220lb a SHW.

Or we could just leave the division just like it is.....

 

Nothing needs to change.

Evolution means people get bigger, that isn't a problem.

A great little guy will still beat a good big guy. And if we have a great big guy then he deserves his place.

My only issue is I don't like clinching. Remove that and we see higher skill in the top division again.

 

It's not evolution that makes people bigger in boxing because (as you say yourself) SHW sized giants have always featured within the ranks of the division that used to be HW to lesser or greater degrees.

The great big guy deserves his place in his own division. The SHW division. It's what we have now!

What we have is two divisions with the wrong name. HW is the wrong name for SHW and CW is the wrong name for HW sized men.

 

Change every division then.

WW is the wrong name for MW sized men.

 

You might have a point but the difference is when a welterweight turns pro more often he goes into the pro welter division. When a heavyweight turns pro he moves into the pro CW division. When a SHW turns pro he's in the pro heavyweight division. The names are wrong.

 

Upon what's stats do you base that on?

 

HW is the wrong name for the SHW division. CW is the wrong name for heavyweights. The public deserve clarity.

An intresting stat is that Mike Tyson falls within the in the ring weight of a CW now. It's just wrong calling him a CW. It is not wrong calling Wlad a SHW.

 

Every division has that same issue due to the 24 hour weigh in.

Exactly. That's how wishy washy that name is. It never really meant anything. Now genuine HW boxers are within its class. It's time for that name to go. Keep the division just call it what it is. heavyweight.

 

Let's go further we'll take the average fight night weights of the top ten in every division and rename it in line with the same day weigh in era.

 

I'm fine with that, though it seems less necessary than the urgency of needing to address two divisions having the wrong name and not being in line with Amateur Boxing.
