Did Hagler dare prove to be great?

  1. Yes, you can prove to be great in 1 weight class

    90.3%
  2. No, you have to move up. Broner dared to be great. Hagler didn't

    5.8%
  3. Golovkin hater here, this one's got me stumped

    I would argue he didn't.

After fighting Alan Minter in 1980, he should've headed straight up, rather than trying to clean out the division and luring the big names in. When he headed up, he should've fought that generations Paul Smiths in 3 tune-ups in his hometown, before scoring a highly debatable win over the man in the above division above then heading into retirement when he had unfinished business.

Instead, he had SIXTY SEVEN fights in the same weight class without moving up. To put that into perspective Gennady Golovkin has had 34 and he doesn't dare to be great either because you can only prove your great by moving up in weight. Right? Right? Right?

Hagler refused to fight/dodged/ducked Mike McCallum, so forget about moving up weights, he didn't really clean up his own division.

Yeah but I get what he is saying.

I think a better comparison would be with Carlos Monzon.

Of course he is. Hagler is the same ethnic orgin as him. Golovkin isn't.

Otherwise he would have a better refute than attack the poster from behind the comfort of his keyboard and his prison cell.

I asked you, I asked you to educate me as to why Hagler didn't entertain McCallum.

It's a boxing forum, we discuss boxing, I'm not asking much other than an explanation.
