Sean Gibbons, who manages Salido, laughed off Arum’s comments, saying the negotiations just fell apart and that no one got cold feet. “Using Orlando’s name and chicken in the same sentence — that’s ludicrous,” Gibbons said in a phone interview. “Olando has never chickened out of any fight. We had good talks with Bob. I thought we had come to some kind of an agreement. It just didn’t seem to work. Orlando Salido wants to give the fans the fights they want. And I don’t hear any fans clamoring for Salido-Lomachenko.”

Gibbons believes fans would rather see a rematch of the June 4 war involving 130-pound titleholder Francisco Vargas and Salido than against Lomachenko, who lost a split decision to an overweight Salido in a rough, physical affair. “Things didn’t work out,” Gibbons said. “Orlando voiced to me, ‘Hey, why do I want to fight a guy in Lomachenko who I know is going to run, grab and hold when I can go Mexican-to-Mexican with Francisco Vargas and give the people what they really want see. The only guys who want to see Lomachenko — are Lomachenko.”

Loma is fighting in late March. Who is his realistic opponent?
Jan 14th - Pedraza-Davis. Most probably not enough time.
Jan 28th - Vargas, Miura, Berchelt all fighting. March is impossible.
Uchiyama is finished. Corrales just fought on 31st.
That just leaves GAMBOA as the only big name, but he hasn't fought for a long time and will probably and rightfully want a tune up!

Salido plans to live off that win for the rest of his career without having to suffer a brutal equaliser. Unless the price is right. Maybe that's his intention, to try up the fee for the decapitation he will endure by hinting to Loma he might never get to avenge?

 

I don't believe that for a second. Salido has fought too many top guys over the years for any charge of ducking to stick. He's like Miguel Cotto or Nonito Donaire. No active boxer besides Pacquiao has fought more high profile fighters. If Salido and Lomachenko don't rematch it isn't because Salido is ducking. He loves nothing better than taking fights where he's in way over his head. He's the exact opposite of those chickens who protect their 0's. He's got like 13 losses because he's fought Lomachenko, Juan Manuel Marquez, Mikey Garcia, Juan Manuel Lopez, Guerrero, Gamboa, Martinez, and Vargas. The only thing that makes sense is that Lomachenko's people don't want the rematch and are low balling him.

 

Have you seen the brutal fights he's been in? He's never been one to spare his body punishment. His last four fights were fight of the year contenders and before that he warred with Lopez. The Lomachenko win is a great one but it's hardly all he has. He wasn't supposed to beat Lopez either. Back then Lopez was top ten p4p on the Ring list and brutalizing everyone. Salido decapitated him twice. He also made Robert Guerrero, a two weight world champion who fights at welterweight, look like a child. Three years later, Guerrero was also listed in the top ten p4p Ring list. Add to that, his last fight was fight of the year, and he has a lot more than the Loma victory to gloat about.

Damn I thought this fighting was very close to being official. Loma really doesn't have a lot of options at the moment. Who's his mando?

 

I don't blame him, 36 years old, long hard career, hasn't won in his last 3 fights and it's a legacy thing for him, he can always say he beat Loma, he took that 0.

I never thought he'd do it again unless it was outrageous money.

 

Apparently Corrales is interested but that remains to be seen. It would be a big payday for the Panamanian.

Apparently Johnny Gonzalez is gunning for Mares at the moment. I wouldn't mind the Tevin Farmer fight. Actually that's a pretty good fight right there.

 

Loma and Arum need to take the short money here if they really want the fight. If Loma is about legacy which I think he is, he should give it up in order to get this fight. There will always be questions marks until he avenges this loss.

Loma will make plenty of money in his career, there's no reason to be greedy here.
