Did Marvin Hagler dare to be great?

What were they? Were they legit, no catchweights? etc

 

First offer 8 mil at 155
Second offer was for 10 mil + PPV at 160 offered just a few months ago
Third offer was for 15 mil at 160 a couple months ago

For the record, no B side in the history of the sport save Pac has ever been paid 15 mil for a fight, let alone rejected such an offer.

For contrast, Canelo made 5 mil against Floyd, and 5 mil against Cotto in a fight that generated 900K PPV buys.

 

Hagler was great to watch.

 

I would be interested to know the other side of that. Im sure there must be a reason its not accepted as I think GGG was after the fight.
Be interested if anyone has any info as to why if this is the case?

You would think.. But Golovkin has the reputation of making negotiations harder. Look how much it took just to get the Jacobs fight. If its not a weight issue with Ggg, its a money issue. Ggg wants all the cards stacked in his favor, he wants everything to be as he wishes, and in boxing it just doesn't work that way. Most if not all of the great fighters have had to sacrifice something, whether it is weight, or purse, but they do. Ggg doesn't do that.

Pacquiao gave Hatton 1 mil out of his own purse just to get the fight made.
Canelo settled for 5 million against Cotto's 15 million.
Hopkins accepted 8 million for his fight against the biggest cash cow of his era.

The examples are endless.

The third offer was NOT from a couple of months ago, liar. The earliest mention of that was around Dec 20th, which came as 3G and Jacobs were finalizing their fight. You are about as guillible as they come Isal.

Everyone basically said the 155 fight offer, and 10 mill NO UPSIDE offer were jokes. Except you and probably el chicano.

That last offer of 15 mill should be given, if serious, after the Jacobs fight. Loeffler will not enter negotiations while his man has a fight scheduled. That's how he does business, as do many others.

Of course, saying all this to you is pointless. You're the guy who said Liam smith would be 3G's best opponent to date FFS!!

 

3G does not have a rep of making negotiations harder. Jesus christs.... Loeffler is actually known to be very accommodating and easy to work with in negotiating fights with other promoters.

Fighters don't have to move up to be considered great. But there are some who did that really because they are dare to be great. Case example:
Oscar could have stay at 140 and rules forever, instead if moving to 147 to meet killers like Tito Whitaker quartey. Even if he moved up because he can not make the weight anymore, he could still pull a canelo and avoid them.
Tito didn't have to enter middleweight tournament. He was such a favourite over Hopkins that there were a preliminary talks to face Roy jones.
Leonard faced every freaken body around his weight classes, facing the arguably the best lightweight in Duran, one of the best junior welter in Benitez, the best super welter in hearns and arguably the best middleweight in Hagler.
I only listed a few that I thought were major stars that didn't really have to go through what they did but did it anyway.

I'm well aware of the history of those guys, having watched most as they were fighting still. But with today's fans, especially on this board, you MUST move up to prove greatness. And that's a huge fallacy.
