Hagler knocked out every middleweight he ever fought while he was champion. In fact, he knocked out almost every middleweight he fought when he was on the rise. He ducked no one.

I never said he ducked anyone. There just weren't any great middleweights for him to fight and the best fighters he fought were guys that came up.

IsaL has comprehension problems. Reality completely stumps him.

Golovkin, as the A side, should offer Canelo 15 mill and see if he takes it. Betcha he doesn't.

Its different eras. You seem to miss the point. Do you think Echols or Eastman would have been pushed by a LW. Really? Well the champ who beat all these fighters you mentioned was.
What you dont grasp is that even competitive fights and fighters doesnt always mean a division is tough. It could be that it is not as tough just evenly matched and when you get a dominant champ its no longer considered tough.
As said its different eras. When you look at fighters like Hopkins, Holmes, Echols they are all around 6ft. When you look at say Vito he was a small MW from lighter divisions. Many (not all) were smaller MWs that I think the fighters I mentioned would have possibly have been to big for.
This sort of thing is lost on someone taken in by hype like yourself but I like how you acknowledge my knowledge at SMW. You have obviously learnt from me

Obviously this thread has more to do with justifying Golovkin's position for wanting to stay at 160 and unify than it is to reflect back on Hagler's career.

Without going into a long-winded post, all I'd say is I don't think the biggest of Golovkin detractors would have an issue with him staying at 160 for good if he had challengers like Ray Leonard and Thomas Hearns (even a past his best Duran gave him a good fight.) Aside from being HUGE names in the sport at the time, 2 of those men were considered to be dangerous opponents for Marvelous and could potentially beat him.

While Hearns and Leonard were coming up in weight from WW, both men were very large Welter's (especially Hearns,) with both men winning titles all the way up at LHW. They're both also regarded as top 3-5 ever in the WW division. So as far as smaller guys moving up in weight go, they were definitely exceptions to the rule.

I personally don't mind Gennady for staying- it's always nice to see a fighter adamant about unifying the division. But on a personal level, I'd like to see him just fight someone who'll give him an actual challenge. I think most here know how all his fights at MW would play out, including against Alvarez. I can't for the life of me understand why anyone would want to watch that match. It would be a one sided drubbing.

The only thing I've "learnt" from you is how little you know about the middleweights. Btw, Hagler beat every fighter he ever fought that was 6 feet and above. And yes, all of those fighters you mentioned would have struggled with the Duran that fought Hagler.

I notice the OP hasn't been back to the alt account he used to post this thread since he fired a 9mm straight into his big toe. He must still be thinking of - and I quote - 'the Paul Smith-like journeyman' Hagler should have fought at catch-weight to cement his legacy. He said Hagler should have moved up after beating Minter, so I'm pretty sure he didn't know SNW didn't exist back then.

The golden rule must be: If you're gonna troll, do your research... lol

Honestly I never said you said he ducked anyone. And the fighters he fought that were moving up are all all time greats, which we both know. As far as the middleweights he fought, the ones he fought in the Philly era before he was champion were very good.

    heres a bit more ducks,

Boxers that ducked/ducking GGG, fyi all of these are/were world champs.

    1. Sturm --- wouldn't fight him for over 2 years when GGG was mandatory to him.

    2. Quillin --- said he will only fight for the may-pac kind of money, lol + he flew to Haymon to avoid GGG

    3. Martinez --- "His promoter said that "no way I am putting him with this monster", GGG kept calling him out after his U.S. debut after every fight

    4. Cotto --- ducked his mandatory(GGG) twice by fighting Geale and Canelo

    5. Chavez jr --- Turned down 12mil offer by TR for 2 fights

    6. Canela --- Avoided his mando(GGG). Thinks that he is fighting at the weight-class of 155, as there is no such thing as a "155 weight-class" ,he is pretending to be not in the MW division because of GGG. There are 17 divisions just pick one, if you can't make 154 then you are a MW, simple. And then he dropped the belt when he had to fight GGG next, wow

    7. Froch --- After calling GGG out then when GGG accepted ,he backed down and now he is retired after making all the fuss, + GGG was calling him for more than a year b4 he was retired so no excuses for "retiring". Carl said in a SkySports interview he will swerve GGG like the plague, he punches like a mule and there's no point getting in the ring with someone like him.

    8. Ward --- The diva of the 168lb division don't want to travel or meet the a-side GGG in a catchweight so he can become a good boy and get ktfo. Was willing to goto 160 for Floyd but when GGG said 164, Ward ducked + he was fine when Dawson came down a whole division for him but wont move half a division for GGG, smh

    9. Saunders --- Even before winning the WBO title from Lee his fear of Golovkin was as biright as day this is just one of many interviews(
    This content is protected
), then after winning it he priced himslef out at 6 mil$. Then turned down $3.2mill offer from k-2(its 2.2 gbp)

    10. Eubank jr --- Very similar to Froch's duck of GGG, after calling GGG out he lost his pen when he had to sign

    11. Njikam --- When Hassaan was WBO champ, he was ordered to a purse bid to face Golovkin no less than two times and he was a no show each time.

    12. Barker --- When Barker defeated Geale to become IBF champ, his promoter openly said that he will fight any1 except GGG, Golovkin offered to fight him in England practically free, his only demand was for them to give Team Golovkin 10 FREE tickets, Barker ducked.

    13. Mundine --- Another blatant ducker, google it.

    14. Soliman --- Soliman won the IBF title in 2014 from Sturm, immedietly after winning the title he called out GGG, then GGG fought his countryman Geale. He saw the fight and changed his mind stating he will NOT fight GGG after what he saw.

    15. Zbik --- Just like sturm, protected by Universum.

Let's say GGG goes up in weight to face Zurdo,Ward, JCC Jr. or whomever. To prepare for the fight he will add muscle to give him the best chance. Whether he wins or not is not the issue in this point. GGG is a lean MW and doesn't rehydrate as much as most fighters. It would be difficult for him to lose that 8 pounds of muscle and go back to MW. As a MW now he has 3 of the 4 important belts, he is closing in on BHops MW defense record and has a 23 KO streak and the highest KO% going on for any MW champ. Why would he leave MW before unifying and breaking BHops record? Is there anyone in MW that he is ducking? Is there anyone in a higher weight class willing to fight at 160 that he is avoiding? Is there anyone under MW willing to go to MW that he is ducking? Is GGG creating new weight classes like Canelo did? I don't see a problem with him staying at MW. In the future if he breaks Bhops streak and unifies the belts I can see him moving up. I would like to see GGG face Zurdo, Ward or Kovalev but I understand why he shouldn't now.

I know Hagler beat every MW he fought, but not at first ask. I have also seen how you dont pay attention to what was written. So what if Hagler beat every MW that he fought that was around 6ft. Height isnt necessarily what makes a fighter good. What I did say was (and pay a bit of attention this time). Many were smaller MWs. Out of the names you picked Hart, Monroe, Seales, Briscoe, Watts, Hearns, Antuofermo, Minter, how many in that group averages 6ft. I would guess under half and no I dont think for one second that Hopkins would have struggled with Duran, In fact Joppy beat him. That last bit was a wind up

The poster is correct in that many great names were fighters who had come up
