i'm not defending Calzaghe waiting until jones was shot to fight him, i'm saying that Calzaghe was a bigger player than froch at that time
in a world where there are half a dozen belts per weight division, mandatories are a dime a dozen, and froch was yelling for a fight that he simply hadn't earnt.

Brewer instead of Veit. Bika should also be ahead of Veit.

i think froch has the better one overall

but beating a prime kessler and i very able Bhop is better then anything on the cobras resume

so calzaghe prob has the 'better wins' whilst froch has the overall better resume

& nobody on frochs resume beats calzaghe either

Froch lost to the two best fighters he faced.

Didnt say I wasnt a fan. I wrote not to the level that alot of you would think.
I am a big fan of the SMW division as I have watched it from the beginning and do know the division well and have watched even some little known match ups, so have seen how good some were.
I look at all resumes that I know and have followed from all views, but many dont know the SMW resumes as well as I have watched them
Alot would say something like this because Joe was so good at SMW, he was head and shoulders above, but the division he fought in was SMW and at SMW he did better than anyone else overall before or after.
Carl Froch was a very good SMW, but in my opinion not at the level of Calzaghe and he fought fighters that werent as established SMWs but they are known, yet Froch wasnt expected to go up to LHW to face Hopkins and that is likely because he wasnt overall as convincing in his fights where they were exciting struggles
Not really in disagreement with you. He had hand problems before he even turned pro and I expect that played a big part
Dont be sorry. That was one of your best posts and mine are also amazing lol

The bit about Joe over all being better than froch I agree with but timing as in age heart strength sheer determination are all to close to call
My problem and this is as a fan its down to Joe why there is a question mark for example this thread alone
Not to mention the money he missed out on for one more thirty four minute dance ;)

That is a tough one. I think it would depend what Ottke and what Kessler turned up. Saying both where I felt prime (Kessler against Andrade), (Ottke against say Butler).
Really tough to say and I could see either winning on points in certain situations due to styles.
One time I favour one and then the other.
If Ottke was moving in and out well and jumping in, I wouldnt be shocked if Ottke won the tightest of margins. If Kessler was getting his good jab going he may win a tight margin.
I think Ottke wins a tight decision but if it was end of career Ottke then I would have favoured Kessler, but prime Ottke I think, who was fast on his feet, and use to land and get out as well as avoid alot of shots

    He was a good SMW.
He beat SMW champ Liles, twice beat Siaca who became a SMW champ, drew with Girard who was a SMW and LHW champ, pushed Ottke and was only ever clearly beaten at SMW by Calzaghe

How was Bika a leftover when he drew with Beyer in a fight many felt he was winning? Stop trying to rewrite history.
I agree Veits performance against Brewer was very impressive

Veit has a dominant win over Brewer. I would put Veit above Bika based on overall win resume at SMW
