I noticed on boxrec that Dmitry Pirog is the only fighter to beat Daniel Jacobs back in the 2010. Just watched the fight and he looked damn good fighter. Pirog was undefeated 20-0 (15 KO). What happened him? Did he retire, why?
1) Blackballed from HBO for upsetting the Jacobs hype train and breaking the script HBO and Golden Boy planned out for him. 2) Management change at HBO brings about a change of heart on Pirog 2 years later. Pirog is set to fight GGG in 2012 in GGG's debut fight on the network. 3) Back injury wrecks him. He withdraws from the fight, and GGG faces Proksa instead. 4) Back injury never recovered enough for him to fulfill comeback wishes. Pirog was a classic case of a fighter who had the goods but whose career was compromised by some flat out bad luck. Had things been different at HBO, he would've gotten a push from the network off the result of a great performance instead of getting sent back to Russia.
He was signed to fight ggg but got a bad back injury would of been a good scrap ggg would of stopped him though pirog could not stop ishida ggg sparked him easy
He hurt his back during training for a fight vs ggg, would had been real bad for pirog had he made it to the ggg fight. possibly blessing in disguise
Pirog is a great example of how luck plays a role. Sometimes you just need good fortune. You can be as skilled and hard working as you want, but one of those discs goes bad in that back and boom it's over
Why you gotta be a like that??? Jacobs ain't no bum, the guy can bang, only loss was against Pirog who would be right up there with GGG if not for his back injury and forced to retire at 20-0 with 15 KO's on his record I got GGG winning by KO like most but this kid has picked himself up for the hell that in cancer and is climbing into the ring with the best Middle in the world. Sound more like balls than bum mate. Show a little respect
