Also his diet/nutrition during training would be interesting to know. And any cool stories of Mercer would be appreciated as well. Can't get enough Ray Mercer this week. I've watched almost every televised fight of his this week lol.
I think Ray was a interesting guy. Used to like watching him. U never really knew which mercer was going to turn up on the night. Losing to old man Holmes one minute then giving Lewis one of his toughest fight the next... How was a bit of a enigma in the ring but he fitted right in with the 90 s heavyweight s.
8:AM - Roll out of bed and get cup of coffee and watch the news 9:AM - Fry up some eggs, bacon, and toast 10A:M - head down to the tripple threat gym 11:AM - after an hour of bag work sits down and chats with other guys 12M - Lunch break. Sends one of the guys to wendys to get three cheesburgers two orders of fries and a milk shake. 1M - Spars 1:30 PM - barfs up lunch 2M - goes home.
Was Ray suspected of doing that stuff? I wouldn't be surprised. The 90's testing wasn't exactly strict
I never heard any claims that he was a juice user. of course that doesn't mean that he wasn't. Mercer was actually a pretty tough guy. He was an office in the Army. won the Olympic gold. And had some pretty memorable fights as a pro. Riddick Bowe said that he was sometimes a little lazy in training when they were at the Olympics in Korea, but then who is Bowe to criticize?
Hard case very dangerous bloke when in the right mood and shape.would have liked to see him against Tyson .Ray said very early that he was going to KO Mike .in a interview in ko magazine he said that when he had finished with Tyson he'll be known as canvas back.one things sure Mercer wouldn't have been afraid of Tyson.
Well, for Ferguon I at least, his appearance led me to believe he followed the Greg Page/Tony Tubbs training regimem: Do a situp - Eat a ring ding; Do a pushup - Eat a Twinkie; Run a Mile - Eat a Buffalo.
Lol, come on now, somebody must know some real training specifics. It is no secret that he sometimes didn't come to fight in the best shape, but when he did he was a force to be reckoned with.
Ray Mercer possessed an indisputable all time great chin. He could simply absorb the flushest shots from the hardest hitters in the heavyweight division. I remember him flopping to the canvas against Shannon Briggs at the age of 44 after eating plenty of leather. He tried to milk a foul and get a DQ over Briggs... I believe I remember him peeking at the ref from the canvas to see what action he would take, similar to Bowe in one of the Golota fights. In his prime though he was a physical tank, albeit one that would at times sleepwalk through fights and really just not perform to his full potential.
