will Canelo's stock drop if he continues to fight guys like Smith?

I SAW what he looked like. Death warmed up. Clearly the extra weight loss had a profound effect.

    Lemieux: hits too damn hard.
    Monroe: hits too damn fast.

Both these guys are 160 guys, which means that Canelo would not have his usual massive weight advantage. Interesting to note that his whole "I'll face the winner of Rosado and Monroe" charade fell flat when Monroe won.

:chuck: Yeah, it's very obvious why Canelo is dodging GGG. I know it, and you know it. Saul gets done, family style. :b2:

:crybaby2: Crybaby Canyellow, back to 154, pal. :couch:

Oh, so now that's trolling? But when ODLH offers GGG parking change to face Alvarez, that's "getting real"? :flipa:

I assume he just wants a percentage split. 35-45 In Canelo's favor is what I'm guessing. Pure speculation but I think I heard someone say 35 at some point. If Canelo never dropped the belt it would have been 25/75 in his favor and he wouldn't have gotten punked, lol.

Have to agree, he's not a Mexican as I understand them. I first learned respect for Mexican fighters when they imported "no-name brand" Mexicans to pad the records of the local guys, and to everybody's surprise they put up a hell of a fight and nearly caused the upset. (Did cause the upset, in some cases, iirc, but it was a long time ago).

Canelo is not like those guys imho.

He's got skills, he's got a nice style, decent power and a decent chin, but there's something wrong with his heart.

The Mexicans as I knew them ... you'd have to take the belt out of their bloodstained hands if you wanted it.

    Maybe Canelo was adopted.

All more or less true points which I already knew, but my point is that numbers can be deceptive.

It's hardly fair to quote 800k HBO views as GGG's US value when it was a bad time in the US + there were 500k buys in the UK.

I wasn't comparing the 500k ppv buys to Canelo's 300k vs Smith as I know the price is different.

Ggg may very well get left out in the cold if he continues with his shenanigans.

He already blew his opportunity to fight Ward at 168.

He tried to make that fight happen for like, 3 years. Ward is the one that held that up. Ward never had any intention of fighting Golovkin. Also, I don't think it would work out even if Ward did want the fight. He seems to demand more money than he brings in and according to other people in boxing business he isn't the easiest guy to work with. We may see Golovkin at 175 in a megafight after he becomes undisputed and breaks Hopkins' record, but I doubt it will be against Ward.

Wanting to get a PPV split in a PPV fight where both parties bring something to the table isn't unreasonable. If Golovkin's management team settled for less they would be idiots.

Yep we know what they want. Tom Loeffler went on the record saying they want a 60-40/65-35 type deal, in favour of Canelo. He went on to say that they understand how its goes and Canelo is the one who has more drawing power, but they wont take any flat-fee offers. And no 5%-10% either.

I'm sure they already reached a deal, but its kept on the low low so they build more hype and interest/controversy.

You need to understand that 8m is considerably less than 15m.

Ward sent Ggg an offer for a fight at 168. Golovkin wanted a catchweight. Ward decided to move up and fight Kovalev rather than wasting his time with GGG who is UNWILLING to fight at the full SMW limit and is CLEARLY fishing for a Canelo MEGA-Payday.

Like you said, your speculating about what they want and what's realistic. NO if Canelo wouldn't have dropped the belt, he wouldn't have had any leverage. Once again in this time and era, sadly belts don't mean much at the bargain table.

Dropping the belt made him a joke and gets him ridiculed constantly. He pretty much has to fight Golovkin to get his respect back and when he had the belt he could make Golovkin settle for 25%. Now offering 25% would be seen as a lowball and he still hasn't even offered that much, lol

That runs counter to what Golovkin has been stated to offer in the past. Even if he did offer catchweight...and? Golovkin fights at middleweight. It is still better than what Ward did to Dawson lol.

    Awwww.. Here we go again.
With the exception of a few, it seems that majority lets their preference for one particular fighter clouded their objectivity on seperate issues regarding these 2.
Here is how I see without tieing my view to either:
    1. GGG should secure the fight, if canelo insist there is no percentage and 15m flat is final, he should take it and not let it slide. He is not the bigger diva, concession is required if it is the last resort.
    2. As for the fight, canelo has better resume at this stage. But it won't help him with the fight with GGG. He has lazy feet, even when not pushed he likes to retreat to the ropes and counter. You can't counter GGG effectively as GGG although seems to let some teed off him, is never reckless and always measured and in control. Canelo might get his licks in but it would never gonna be enough. The only chance is if he go mad at ggg's body, but that requires him to stay in front for incoming assault.

Just more Ggg hypocrisy, double standards, and irony.
