Whyte gives up British title

    Dillian Whyte has vacated the British heavyweight title, calling his decision “a no-brainer.” Speaking with Sky Sports, Whyte says he could not get up for a mandated British defence against Sam Sexton, so he opted to give up the belt.

    Whyte, who thrilled us in his epic 12-round slugfest of a win over Dereck Chisora back on December 10, is now looking for some top-10 fights, before a hoped-for shot at a world title before the end of this year.

    “Sam Sexton, fighting him doesn’t make sense, ranking wise, or business sense,” Whyte explained. “For me, fighting Chisora then Sam Sexton is a backward step. Chisora has knocked him out twice. He doesn’t really do anything for my career. Eddie (Hearn) has promised me some top-10 fights this year, hopefully leading me to a world title fight at the end of this year. It was a no-brainer, to be honest.”

    Whyte is quite highly ranked already by the WBC and if he can win a fight or two against top-10 calibre opposition – and he was recently linked to a possible fight with former WBC heavyweight champ Bermane Stiverne – it would get him a big step closer to a shot at Deontay Wilder. But what about that war with Chisora – will we see a part-two?

    “I’ve got no problem fighting Dereck again, but I’ve got to think about my career and moving forward to challenge for a world title,” Whyte, 20-1(15) said. “My dream is to become world champion, not to stay at British level and keep fighting these guys, unless it makes financial sense or ranking sense. I’ll definitely knock Chisora out this time, 100 percent.”

    That remains to be seen. But Whyte, a very good fighter who is both talented and tough, seems to be closing in on his world title shot. Whyte against Stiverne would be very interesting; as would Wilder against Whyte. Let’s see who the opponents are in Hearn’s promised top-10 fights for “The Body Snatcher.”

    Whyte is not that good, and lost the fight against Chisora

    I see some big money fights for him definitely off the back of his win against Chisora, but I doubt he wins a world title.
    Unless some skunk smoking bum like Charles Martin is an opponent down the track for a strap.

    Whyte is the new Chisora, some ability and will take a decent punch but will loose against the very best.
    That might have been Chisora's last roll of the dice so to speak but I would have expected Whyte to do more than get caught by huge left hooks time and time again.

    How many times have we heard Whyte say "I'm gonna knock him out" and then come no where near doing so in the fight? The guy's power is so overrated.

    Wilder KOs him like AJ, Parker beats him, Hughie Fury schools him. Povetkin brutalises him... I could go on.

    He was brutally punished by past-his-peak Chisora and Chisora rightfully knocked him down (stopped from dropping because of the rope) in their fight.

    He starches all them heads bar AJ.

    Del Boy is a top five heavyweight and should of been a world champion (robbed againts Vitali.)

    He's a domestic level powder puff punching heavyweight who will end up brain damaged if he keeps taking so many flush punches to the head.

    He is nowhere near the level of a prime Chisora. He lacks the power, and is one of those who will get on his bike and move and steal a decision granted, but lacks power against the best to be competitive.

    I am very certain that had he met Chisora when he was less fresh in terms of career war miles, that Chisora would have stopped him. Its only the fact he has been relatively unhurt and in few wars that means he is durable. That durability soon diminishes, just ask our Danny

    I'm not the biggest Whyte fan but he beat Chisora including laying out in 12th with a right and O'Connor laughably called it a slip

    That was the best I've seen Chisora after all he's only 32 and had he turned up like that before he'd of been a World Champion and I hope he can turn up like this again he will beat most it the top heavyweights.

    As for Parker and Hughie both Whyte and Chisora would both destroy them.

    its good for keeping up to date with the latest news as it breaks on here very quickly, guys like yourself also have great input and there is quite a few folk on here with excellent knowledge that blows mine out the water but the amount of alts and blatant trolling is beyond a joke.

    They have to have a re-match ... that was a great advertisement for boxing that fight, really exciting, no gameplan all out brawl that sells so well to casuals. Get that on the undercard for another PPV is what i say, good money for both fighters as well
