A great warrior, amazing to watch, though never fought the very best so no idea what level he was at.

 

Well we can grasp what level he was at mate based on stopping Nigel Benn and then going unbeaten for 20 world title fights! The highest!

Comparing his performances against Watson, Malinga and Thornton with those of McCallum, Jones Jr and Toney, Eubank is able to penetrate the peek-a-boo defences better than those three with his double jabs, short counters and flashy flurries; McCallum, Jones Jr and Toney are three of the 10 or 12 best fighters EVER at ANY weight, no question for me.

Eubank Sr's bizarre weakness was lack of stamina and fitness - work was sharp and tight and precise for four or five rounds and then got sloppy and sporadic for the rest of the 12 - including walking in swinging, very occasionally.. - allowing lesser-talented fighters to win rounds on work-rate and consistency.

His off-the-floor, one-punch demolition of Michael in the rematch was very special.

Great fighter and his son will keep the legacy going.

 

Nobody liked him then.

It was only after he stopped boxing and lost most of his money that the British public warmed to him and now he's back in the limelight via his son everyone is fast remembering just why they thought he was a ***** the first time.

 

Got nothing but respect for what he did in the ring mate. Loved watching him as a young lad and still enjoy watching his fights on YouTube.

I would only question why in his prime, he didn't fight the likes of RJJ and quite a few others. Also, I notice that although his first 5 fights were in America, he never went back?

 

Eubank freely admitted on a Sky special that Jones and Toney were avoided as they were too good. At least he admitted to his limitations, which came as a surprise. Available on You Tube, I think.

 

We criticise fighters on here for avoiding others including Junior himself.

Eubank Senior, as entertaining and enjoyable to watch as he was, never truly tested himself against the very best and thus he can't be put on a pedestal with that 'world class' company.

What was his best win? Against Nigel Benn?

 

Some limitations there mate, two of the best lb4lb fighters ever, both capable of killing or being killed, not defended against (when not even mandatory for Eubanks title). Ha.

 

I would say Watson or Rocchigiani. Rocchi went on to outbox Nunn for the one time ever (plus was robbed against Maske and Michalczewski) and was on hostile home territory. Nunn was arguably more talented than even Toney or Jones.

Probably Watson rematch win has to be the one. Getting up before the count of one at the end of the penultimate round of a turbo-paced fight to deliver THAT shot. Wow. Still not seen anything to really rival it.
