Yuri Foreman’s title fight against Erislandy Lara on Friday night represents an opportunity, however daunting an assignment, to rejuvenate the former 154-pound champion’s career.

The Belarus-born Foreman, 36, hasn’t had a fight anywhere near this magnitude since March 2011. Pawel Wolak stopped Foreman after six rounds in that scheduled 10-round fight, which Showtime televised from Las Vegas as part of a pay-per-view telecast that featured Miguel Cotto and Ricardo Mayorga in the main event.

The Brooklyn resident took nearly two years off from boxing thereafter. He is 6-0 since he came back in January 2013, but against journeymen.

Upsetting Lara, an astounding 100-1 favorite according to several Internet sports books, would move Foreman into position to participate in a super welterweight championship unification fight. This terrific opportunity came with a catch, though.

Foreman has to fight Lara on a Friday night, during Sabbath, Judaism’s period reserved for rest and worship. Away from the ring, Foreman is an observant Orthodox rabbi, which means he isn’t supposed to do much of anything from sundown Friday until sundown Saturday.

foreman doesn't have to worry about not doing much on the sabbath, he will either be going to sleep early or lara will run and they will both doing nothing

actually lara should say he is jewish and he is running and pot shotting and doing nothing becuase he is observing the sabbath

He should walk out to "Sabbath Bloody Sabbath" by Black Sabbath. It would be a big build up and an even bigger letdown when he loses the fight badly, but still a great song to walk out to. Plus, it might be a bloody sabbath for him once Lara busts his face up.

Probably his last chance ever for a fight of this magnitude. Yes, very difficult...

Hell even the devout Walter Sobchak broke Sabbath when it counted.

Absolutely horrible fight here, any excuse for Foreman to not have taken the fight would have been a good one. I have no idea how anyone would have come up with this fight as something people actually wanted to see.

Even if Foreman were on a roll of great wins, just aesthetically, this is a comically bad match-up.

I have a feeling this will be Lara-Raines 2. Busted nose and everything, I wouldn't write off it being Lara-Hearns 2 either.

This whole card could be over in 10 minutes.

Lara plans to fight the Dhali Lhama next if he is successful tonight.

You're right. This match up is so bad I never even got around to thinking that Foreman hadn't done anything to come close to deserving a title shot. I was still stuck on the stink of the fight itself.

Foreman can't fight, he is very weak, can't punch, it is just a set-up for Lara...............
