Hey everybody So I was checking out those documents from the haymon litigation. Alvarez-Khan generated revenue of $27,707,448 and was Golden Boy’s most profitable fight of 2016. Khan made $6 million and Alvarez made $13,309,664 (80% of the net profits) while Golden Boy made net profits of $3,327,415.88. Live gate for this fight was $7.4 million. That means that the remaining 20 million was PPV sales 20 million / 65 = 307K Sources http://www.bloodyelbow.com/2017/1/1...c-lawsuit-more-financials-surface-boxing-news http://www.badlefthook.com/2016/5/14/11676436/canelo-vs-khan-fight-generates-7-4-million-live-gate
Slightly off topic but I bet if we could see the fighter/promoter split back in the days of Don King et al, it would have favoured the promoter rather than the two boxers, perhaps almost a direct swap in percentages. Canelo and Khan ought to send a certain someone a thank you card...
You're assuming that all of the PPV buy money goes to Golden Boy - far from it. Remember the cable providers and HBO still take a big slice before it gets to Golden Boy. Probably less than half the $65 makes its way to Golden Boy.
Canelo made 13 million to KO Amir Khan. That's serious dough! Based on these figures he's gonna make 25 million vs Chavez
I quoted directly from the article 27 million in revenue. Fighters got 20 million. Perhaps the fighters got the money from sponsors as well?
What about HBO's cut? Sky Sports received £7million for Froch/Groves 2 so I would imagine HBO + Showtime are also taking significant cuts.
27m in revenue for Golden Boy - not 27m in revenue from the fight. The PPV isn't paid to Golden Boy, it is paid to the cable networks and then its paid from the cable networks to HBO, who then, after the previous two have deducted their costs, pass on the share for Golden Boy You can't work backwards unless you know how much of the $65 you have assumed makes its way to Golden Boy - the reality is that it will be much nearer half, if even that.
That's a very good point. The article doesn't state whether the 27 million was GB revenue or total. I wonder if the cable company cut is designated as its own revenue.
It is Golden Boy revenue, all the information contained in the article is from Golden Boy accounts and Golden Boy can only account for its own revenue. The figures themselves prove it. Gross Revenue - $27,707,448 less - $13,309,664 less - $6m = $8,397,784 It states that net profit from it was $3,327,415.88 Which means they had to pay all of the production costs and overheads (think of how expensive guys like Michael Buffer cost, as an example of that), the entire undercard and give all the cable providers and HBO a cut from $5,070,368.12 - that's obviously not financially feasible.
