Not really. The methods Spinks and then Holyfield used gained a lot of attention and likely quickly inspired many followers. And then you also had the change from 15 to 12 rds. Those things happened 1985-1987.

Vitali and Valuev were active then but retired before. 2017. That pretty much explains it.

And no1 to fill the void.

Having two Klitschkos is one of the most obscure and amazing things to happen in boxing. Imagine Lewis had a twin brother that was as good as him. They would steamroll the division. It's like having a clone!

It annoying for a fan of boxing.

Fans of the brothers had a great decade but fans of the sport were sick and tired of the stalemate.

To make it worse, as Vitali retired Wlad perfected the most boring style of boxing know to HW history.

Gun to your head now, do you watch the career set of Wlad Klitschko or Dereck Chisora?

You dont know? Even though ive outlined everything in numerous posts? Im not actually sure what this thread is trying to accomplish but it kills most ideas that size doesnt matter ,the same subject you continue to fight against.

your a math guy and cant understand the heavier guys who were not 200 pounds have to be more selective of the output and still throw more in 12 rounds than 15 rounds bc they dont pace themselves as much...your a math teacher? hmmm

I've never said size doesn't matter. It doesn't determine an outcome but it certainly is an important factor.

I didn't look at any context whatsoever. I just crunched the numbers.

Luckily for me, knowing why the average HW increase by over a stone between 87 and 97 isn't a pre requisite for teaching Maths at secondary school.

The two biggest catalysts for the gains were the growing use of PED's, and the shortening of the 15 round championship distance to 12 rounds.

There's a practical consideration as to why that is- it's extremely hard to keep 15 round (or more for the old timers) cardio up as a big fighter while still holding weight on. When you do enough road work to condition yourself for that, muscle gets burned along with fat. To take it to an extreme example, that's why you see marathon runners that look emaciated routinely.

When you shorten the championship distance 20%, and have chemicals that can help keep mass on, it's much easier to hold extra muscle weight on frames that would otherwise be 20 pounds lighter (or more, in some instances). Some of that is also fat, of course, since heavyweights don't have to train for lower weight if they don't want to.

The folks who think that PEDs came along twenty years ago are just plain-spoken buffoons... sons of the soil, I presume.

When do you reckon the sport became infused with PEDs
