As an N17 boy, I'm putting aside my love for the mighty Spurs and getting behind DeGale, I've allowed myself to do this because I've convinced myself it's a different sport and football has nothing to do with it

 

He couldn't outjab Davis. He was much slower, slow enough to get hit with constant straight lefts with no lead jab, from the outside. He didn't have the gas tank to pressure Davis for an extended period of time, nor the boxing and movement to defuse Davis. I don't see what he could have done.

Wasn't much that he could've done but he could've exploited Gervonta's lack of experience. He as doing fine in spots like the beginning of round 2. Even if he could've have done the volume punching thing for 12 rounds...he could've done that in spots.

I think he underestimated Gervonta's ring IQ and composure and figured that he'd fold under pressure. But Davis has a sick learning curve and obviously has those two attributes when needed against higher level opponents. If he can keep improving and doesn't get sidetracked, GD could turn out to be someone pretty special, given his versatility.
