I scored it a draw and had no real bias towards either fighter. Would I have been outraged had DeGale or Jack won close? No. Too bad we probably won't get a rematch.
Overall, yes, Jack was the superior fighter and his power was far more apparent in the middle rds where we ALL know DeGale fades. However, Jack himself seemed to let off the gas from 9-11, and having clearly lost the first 3, and the KD, the KD in the 12th was the tie maker. I dont believe DeGale would win the rematch since Jack now knows his power would take DeGale down if he would apply the pressure to the body earlier in the fight. I picked Jack by KO because I knew Jacks great body work could hurt DeGale and cause him to tire quicker and not come back down the stretch. Seems the early KD kindof made Jack overly cautious and likely cost him the fight. Wasnt a robbery, but could really have gone to Jack. Just didnt do enough in those later rds to get the nod from the judges.
Just watched the full fight and carefully scored it. Although Jack won the 6th, 8th and 12th big he did not clearly win. I scored it 113-113. A very even fight, and Jack has improved defensively a lot since the Groves fight. He blocks a lot of shots now, and many of De Gale's shots were hitting the gloves. Still De Gale did win a number of rounds too, and the 10-8 first round was the deciding factor on my card, otherwise my card would have been for Jack by one point. I think either a draw or a Jack win was a fair result. I cannot see any card showing a De Gale win, because some of the rounds I gave De Gale were close and not clearly his.
I agree but it just depends what your perspective of that comment is IMO this fight was not close at all Ward vs kovalev literally could have been scored either way depending on what you value. Every value/scoring system in boxing should result in a badou jack win
De Gale isn't a popular fighter with the UK crowds. A lot people in the UK wouldn't be bothered if he lost. I saw the fight as a draw. Jack inflicted a lot of punishment but De Gale kept it together enough to get the draw. De Gale showed a lot of heart in the last round to stay on his feet. Great fight but I wonder how much this has taken out of De Gale.
