Liam is mand for the ibf and will now be facing davies after he stopped pedraza last night. After watching the fight last night it wasnt long before my thoughts turned to liam and how would he beat this kid davies. Davies can punch and punch hard, he had a decent shot selection and defence he attacked good and countered good as well. What can liam walsh do in this fight to take that strap off davies. I did notice that pedraza had a little success when he boxed but this was only for a short time and pedraza soon fell back into fighting but liam can box and if he can work behind the jab with plenty of movement then there will be a chance for him. If youve seen the pedraza v davies fight and you have an angle on how davies fights how do u think liam walsh can beat him.
Both would have been hard fights but Liam has the skill to outbox anyone if he has to.....let's hope he gets the purse he wants and title he deserves for being loyal to FW for so long too!
I said in the main section RBR that when Lee Selby steps up eventually these two would have a cracking fight with their styles gelling. Davis was a joy to watch last night. He boxes like Broner but with better movement and more output.
If Liam Walsh had any sense he'd avoid this match at all cost. Davis was just immense, powerful, adapted, when Pedraza came on strong he found a way to negate that, beautiful uppercuts and hooks - he is the next big thing in boxing and at 22 with that kind of power Liam Walsh would be brutalised. I'm not criticising Liam Walsh, I think there's some great domestic match-ups to be had against Stephen Smith (if matchroom allow it) Martin Joseph Ward, or if he wants to try world level then I'd favour him over Roman Martinez, he could beat Malcolm Klassen, Juan Manuel Lopez, Billy Dib, Juli Giner - but he'll lose against someone like Tevin Farmer. His division is absolutely stacked for talent, and he''s not even top twenty yet, fortunately Gervonta has bigger fish to fry I suspect.
I think you are underrating Liam Walsh or haven't seen him recently.. He's improved a lot and certainly looks like he belongs in the top 10. I agree that the Davis fight looks to be a very hard task. But he's the mandatory challenger I doubt he'll swerve it and I think it would be a competitive fight.
I had Pedraza and tbh I think he could of had a good shot of winning but he completely fought the wrong game plan. Not to take credit from Davis he's a talent and looked very good out there to snatch his first title with his level of experience and his age with that being said a boxer can beat Davis. Liam needs to box on the outside to begin with constant movement picking his shots. At some point Davis will become disillusioned and tired as we saw in the two rounds pedraza was having success that's when Walsh needs to go inside and work the body. Take him into deep waters by then I don't see Davis having the know how of pulling back a fight late in the round.
yeah and you'll be up for Davis won't you Spencer Fearon .. not your fellow Brit. Lomachenko would school Davis with one hand
Thats a good account mate..and i agree. He showed patches of disillusionment when pedraza boxed but lets not forget that also this kid had over 200 am fights so its not as though hes never been in with good boxers before but i dont recall his name from the olympics or anything of top calibre and maybe thats why, he just dont deal with boxers effectivly. When pedraza boxed he had success but as youve pointed out he didnt fight his own fight. This is one tough fight for liam should he take it and if i know liam, which by the way, i dont, not personaly, but ive spent a little time trying to understand him mentaly, i think hell give it a miss. Unless he aint got a chance in the not too distant future of getting a shot at another title. all the other belt holders are decent though and wheres he placed in the others? How long would it take him to work his self into a mand position elsewhere. Thinking about it, it aint an easy division this kid Davies can be boxed it seems, liam once he sits down and weighs up all his options and probabilities, might as well get in now. Jeez man this aint no playground for little girls
Davis is a talent but in my opinion he still has shown a few issues with his stamina and I think his defense is purely his athleticism and his gunna get caught clean when he steps up in levels. If he can get a few contenders in before the Liam fight to work on his fundementals it will give him a big chance to beat Liam and becoming a top world champion. Btw Davis has 200+ fights at state level not world level but he won a lot of golden gloves so he's one of the best America has to offer at this weight. If Liam doesn't go for this he is silly, Davis is the most inexperienced and vulnerable of the belt holders. Loma, Sosa and Corrales are more proven so if he doesn't go for Davis he might as well forget about a title shot for a long time.
Ye mate...thinking about it this will be his best chance (liam). Get davis in the near future before he gets more experience..good shout!
Cheers, I really hope Liam takes this a lot of ability but like you said he hasn't done anything significant with it. He can't afford to waste more time.
