Does Lewis get to little or to much credit for beating Holyfield and Tyson

Remember though that Bowe let Holyfield get inside and stay at mid range a lot more than Lewis did. Holyfield had to try and time Lennox and hoped to hurt him with something big. Bowe was much easier to hit and Evander could open up and fire off those rapid fire combos. Somewhere early in their fight Holyfield tasted Lewis`s power and decided it wasn't much fun. My point being that it is harder to KO a guy who isn`t really taking chances either. I do agree Lennox was usually content to box and didn't always go for the KO because he didn't have to he was wining from the outside.

Holyfield in those years was very difficult and he did indeed look enhanced. It was also Lewis's two biggest fights ever ( Vitali would have been had a rematch took place ). Very few fighters would have beat Tyson or holyfield .Holyfield THEN was one up on Tyson b/c he abandoned any head movement and combos after 3 rounds. Holyfield gets credit but he still didnt beat the true Tyson ( at least not even the 1991 version )anyone who has any boxing IQ would know why. Lewis should get alot of credit for beating both and for the same reason Holyfield should get credit .

I think Lewis defeats any version of Holyfield but losses to 80's Tyson. I would opt for to little credit because anyway you look at it Holyfield and Tyson are still very difficult fighters to deal with when motivated. ironically lewis gets no credit for a very tough Morrison who he made look like a noob in the ring. lewis really doesnt get enough credit for his 90's dominance,so you can throw holyfield and Tyson in that mix too ,why not.

It's funny because I know for a fact if Tyson had faced and beat Lewis around 92 people on here would say he knocked out a prime Lennox Lewis. You can't have it both ways, his prime was the fighter that teamed up with Emmanuel Steward.

And let's not forget that Lennox was past his own prime by the time the Tyson bout took place.

The Evander that re-matched Lewis looked to have a fair amount of steam left, so that victory may be a little underrated. 'Inspired past-prime' if you will.

Tyson however was comprehensively shot and finding it difficult to get his poundage down.

In boxing terms Tyson was much older.

He was 15 years past his peak (Spinks fight) when he fought Lewis.

Tyson lost his unified championship around the same time Lewis turned pro. Tyson by that time had already had 37 fights.

Would you agree that if Tyson fought and beat Lewis around 92 that Lewis wasn't at his peak?

I thought the wins well what should've been both wins over Holyfield were good wins. I thought Holyfield looked to be in good forum not prime but good and I really feel those we're his last big efforts after that he clearly declined. The win over Tyson I don't give too much credit for I thought Tyson didn't look to be in good forum at all even compared to his fights at the beginning of the 2000's but who knows maybe Lewis just made him look that way I know he was far from primed but you would think Tyson would try to put in a big effort knowing that could've been a career defining fight who knows though with the mindset Tyson was in at that time.

Even if you just treat them as two more contenders, Lewis still has an astonishing record.

I do agree that Lewis' victories over Holyfield and Tyson were marred by the fact that both of those fighters were in decline and it did raise the question as to whether Lewis would indeed have defeated those guys several years previous. Lewis' defining fights were Mason,Ruddock, Bruno,Morrison, Mercer, Golota, Grant, Akinwande, Briggs, Tua and Klitschko, all of those guys were at the top of their game when Lewis defeated them. Two missing scalps were Moorer and Bowe, neither of whom wanted any part of the Brit, in fact the latter spent his entire career on the run from Lewis which badly effected his standing somewhat.

I saw enough in the Holy rematch to make a strong case that a fresher Evander beats Lennox.

As far as the victories themselves, they're probably a little overrated. That doesnt mean they aren't good wins, but Lennox got more cred here in the U.S. off of the names than the actual in-ring versions would've gotten him (Tyson more so than Holy)

I agree . Holyfield by the time he fought Lewis was almost completely shot. Finally started paying the toll for all those wars he fought. Tyson was pretty much done after B.Douglas. After his prison stay everyone he fought was were no hopers with the exception of Holyfield, the 1st real competition he fought and Holyfield destroyed him.

Holyfield was still decent. Not shot or close to shot in my opinion.
    Holyfield is his best victory.
