So under the guidance of Jim McDonnell, DeGale fought 24 times before it was thought wise to bring in a strength and conditioning coach, despite stamina being one of his biggest weakness. That's a ridiculous oversight. And has DeGale really progressed technically since he turned pro nearly eight years ago? I'd say not much.

I've been reading a little about McDonnell and learned one time, when working with the HW Danny Williams, he became concerned about the boxer's concentration. McDonnell's solution? He hammered a nail into a wall and made him stare at it for an hour. I mean, really, should he be in charge of a near-elite level talent like DeGale?

I can't see DeGale making the most of his ability unless he brings in an A-grade trainer. Suggestions?

I see you've read my post.

You are right and Degale will get a new, better trainer(s) once he signs with Mayweather Promotions. It is Degale's best option.
After that, he can negotiate with K2 who will probably offer him a fight with Golovkin at a CW (162). The better trained and MP promoted Degale will beat Golovkin's ass.

I think so. Degale goes full wild man at times... Despite being a very skilled operator.

Maybe someone like Ronnie Shields too, he did a good job with brawler like Szpilka.

In short yes. If he wanted to stay within the UK McCracken would sort out his stamina issues and get him punching straighter. Those wide slaps aren't doing anything for him at the top level. Big Rob also commands respect in the corner and would give Degale the kick up the backside that he so often needs in the middle rounds and convince him to stick to his strengths.

He could do with working on his defence too but at 30 years old I'm not sure what could be really be done to help significantly himself in that regard other than refusing to get drawn into milling sessions with his opponents.

McCracken is a great shout, But I got the feeling he's 100% AJ now. I agree 30 is a late age to take a new direction but I just have never rated McDonnell. That might solely be down to his voice, but that's a valid reason...

    Yep, good post good call.

He has hit a plataeu under McDonnell and whilst that level is good I don't think he is the right person to move DeGale's career forward.
