Scott Quigg- one of the best fighters we have! Rate him very highly. Just because he got his tactics all wrong in the Frampton people seem to be writing him off. But I think him and Frampton are our two best fighters, he has a big future. David Haye - I know he's made a mockery of British boxing with his pull outs, fake retirements, inactivity, cherry picking, etc. and it has put me off as a fan too. But some people seem to lie on here and claim he's a bum. The talent has always been there. Callum Smith - the best prospect we have imo. This year will be his break out year. I think he will go through the weak 168 division like a hit knife going through butter. Yet people are recently claiming he isn't world level etc.. I think a lot of it comes from people hating Joe Gallagher. Stephen Smith - even though he lost his two world title fights. He gave a good account of himself in both and proved he's a top 10 world level super feather who belongs in world title fights. Liam Walsh- much improved fighter, yet largely unknown and doesn't get much hype, certainly looks to be world level. Ahmet Patterson - Under the radar prospect but has a lot of talent. Was gutted the Williams didn't go ahead I saw that as a 50/50 fight. Luke Campbell- Some people have completely written him off since the Mendy fight. But clearly very good/ very talented - our best ever amateur, and a sure bet to win a world title
Good post. Definetely agree with the first two. Haye and quigg. Especially haye. Even scott quigg...wasnt like he was battered against frampton was a fairly competetive fight. Frampton now gets talked of as a definite top 3 p4p in britain. Quigg gets looked at as a bum. Not seen enough of walsh. Patterson or stephen smith tbh. Not sure i agree about calum smith. Hes a very good prospect granted. Hes gonna be competetive. But not sure hes as good as been made out. Hes getting put in and made to look good against average opposition atm. Either guys that are too small. Too slow or guys with no power. Letting him fight with low risk. Hes looking good but reckon he wont look quite as good against the sharper punchers in the division. Gallachers such a low risk taker with his fighters its the reason they went on a ridiculously good run a few years back but when they do step up they usually get slightly found out half the time cause they dont bridge the gap in opposition. Think it will be the case with callum. I see dirrell. Degale. Groves and jack all beating him. Looks like he can hit though...over a twelve round fight your never sure about groves. Maybe beat dirrell on work rate. But jack. Degale and the boy sitting at 3rd will beat him. I think groves does too. Dirrells his best chance of a win. Luke campbell wont be as good as people expected. Decent fighter that might win a title the way there handing them out nowadays. But cant see him being nearly as good as first thought. He ll get roughed up against the heavier guys in the division.
How has losing clearly twice proved Stephen Smith belongs in world title fights? What does that even mean? If he got jobbed or lost on a razor thing decision, then sure but he lost both pretty comfortably. I don't think Haye is underrated at all, given the best thing he has done at the weight is beat Chisora then I'd say he is a little overrated at times. Happy to believe the hype for Callum is/when he proves it but he hasn't looked decent in a long time. I do agree on Quigg being a little overlooked though. I actually picked him to be Frampton - who went on to make me look a right plum - but I still think he can get some decent wins.
Eddie said Steven Smith could get another crack at a world title against gervonta Davis apparently. That's what a good promoter can do for you ay. Personally I think Walsh beats him. Campbell is a solid boxer but more suited to the ams he would get stopped by flannagan hence why Eddie doesn't want the fight. Haye has beaten no one at HW so don't see why he's underated.
Agree with most of this and I wouldnt say you were made to look a plum in the Frampton Quigg fight Frampton won yeah but thats no disgrace at all and it wasnt a shut out or anything. I also think maybe not underated but understated are Terry Flanagan and BJS especially BJS if he is 100% comitted and on the ball for 2/3 months of a full training camp he is a real handful for any fighter. Andrew Selby is also another who doesnt get as much hype as most fighters in the UK who have nowhere near his talent
Yeah, I really rate Terry but fear poor competition is going to make him complacent when he does fight a world level fighter. I saw Selby at the Groves fight, he looks real good but he doesn't look very strong to me. That's something that can be worked on for sure
haha Selby will be fine once he is on the gear like most !! na in all seriousness I think Lee Selby is possibly the most technically gifted boxer the UK has at the moment. The problem for Terry is that he isnt much of cash ticket so is avoided, Hearn without doubt has avoided putting in Crolla with him along with others
Callum Smith for me, after his last two or three fights his stock has gone down drastically, the two fights prior to that where he got the 1st round Kos everyone was on the bandwagon. He needs a world level opponent to get the best out of him. Liam Walsh is a great fighter who just seems to fall under the radar. I blame FW for that, I'm sure there would have been more hype around this kid if he was with Hearn.
Smith not proven world level. Until he does i think hes over rated. Quigg i agree. Haye hasnt done anything at HW and is probs on a par with AJ in terms of best win Ste Smith Not world level. Lost x2 and easily lost
Not sure about Haye. Everyone with half a brain cell recognises his ability. I just am not quite sure where he is. He clearly has a lot of power. But being a stone heavier, it's hard to gauge him. He is more flat footed, and his opponents haven't allowed us to compare speed.
