Is sizeism an issue in society today? I saw some of that Strongest Man in the World circus over Christmas. Very, very sizeist event. Even the short fellows were absolutely enormous. In boxing even mediocre heavyweights have always been able to drawn a big crowd. "The Richest Prize in Sport". It seems that small guys don't get much kudos anywhere no matter how good they are.
Holy lord has failed!!!! No ONE in their right mind that knows anything, everything and even nothing (most know nothing except the history) could possibly ever have 29 TWENTY ****ING NINE figherst P4P better than Spence Having Thurman dsg and broner level fighters ABOVE Spence in a p4p sense is ****ing asinine. Clearly we have posters that have NO idea what they are watching. Spence is a legendary talent and so far superior to every ww , having him outside a top 10 is ludicrous and only says IDKSAB
So... 115 isn't a good division because no one watches them—and you don't watch them because they're not a good division (because no one watches them). Got it.
Those who can't invest themselves in boxers due to that size-significance dilemma are missing out. Of course there is a basic, red-blooded aspect to boxing whereby we look up to those who could take out most street brawlers, but boxing is also an art, and if you are anything more than a casual you should wake up and smell the coffee. Super-flyweight is currently in a golden age. The talent pool is super concentrated. Gonzalez, Cuadras, Estrada and Inoue make for a stellar quartet. A usual complaint of our smaller warriors is that they have little power. Well, the lowest KO percentage here is Estrada's at 67%. Inoue's punches don't only knock opponents silly but make loud noises. Another gripe may be a similarity in styles but again that does not apply here as all have distinct modes of fighting. Light-heavyweight has the goods but dawdles. No Stevenson-Kovalev, possibly no Kovalev-Ward II. And Cruiserweight is nice but the talent is not there - not in a pound-for-pound sense compared to 115 lbs - not anyway you cut, slice or boil it. Ironically it the lack of recognition that makes these boxers so game, hungry for their first million. I'm not sure I'd condone a full blown love affair.
It defintly plays into it...not many men are below 5'5" and 120 pounds. Meanwhile not many men are above 6'5" and 220 pounds...but that in part is the attraction of heavyweights. Would you rather be 6'6" and 240 pounds or 5'4" and 115 pounds? You watch heavyweight and you think "wow what a physical force" although most of them are lumps with bad boxing skills. You watch these flyweights and you think "damn these skills!" but they only seem like a physical force to smaller men although they could level a normal size man with ease.
Without a doubt, the division is stacked as hell right now, just as good as Cruiserweight, if not a little better. Four P4P fighters at the top of the division. Chocolatito Monster Inoue Principe Cuadras Gallo Estrada And a ton of serious threats to them. Johnriel Casimero Kal Yafai Jerwin Ancajas Sor Rungvisai Sho Ishida Rex Tso And a few question marks, past it fighters and wild cards. Jamie Conlon Nica Concepcion Kohei Kono Koki Eto McJoe Arroyo
I made a thread for biggest purses by division a while back: Heavyweight Mike Tyson vs Evander Holyfield II 30,000,000 Cruiserweight Hill vs Maske 1,500,000 Light Heavyweight Ray Leonard vs Donny Lalonde 15,000,000 Super Middleweight tie Froch vs Groves II 13,000,000 ? Leonard vs Hearns II Middleweight De La Hoya vs Hopkins 30,000,000 Junior Middleweight De La Hoya vs Mayweather 52,000,000 (after television cut) or Mayweather vs Alvarez 41,500,000 Welterweight Mayweather vs Maidana 32,000,000 *Obviously since then May v Pac was like 300 mil Light Welterweight Pacquiao vs Hatton 12,000,000 Lightweight Pacquiao vs Diaz 3,000,000 ? Super Featherweight Pacquiao vs Morales III 3,000,000 Featherweight Hamed vs Barrera 6,500,000 Super Bantamweight Donaire vs Rigondeaux 1,300,000 Bantamweight Donaire vs Narvaez 725,000 Flyweight ? Junior Flyweight Carbajal vs Gonzalez II 1,000,000 Flyweights don't make much. At best they can make a couple hundred thousand dollars. That's why I said we could probably get every top guy at 115 to fight in a tournament for around 8 million dollars. In a recent fight, Gonzalez got 400k and Cuadras made 250k. For Gonzalez vs Arroyo, Gonzalez earned 300k to Arroyo's 75k. Against Viloria Gonzalez earned 250k with Viloria earning 100k, and against Sosa he picked up 200k. We could seriously put on Inoue vs Gonzalez, with Estrada vs Cuadras plus Yafai vs Casimero on the undercard for about 1.5 million dollars.
Was 112 for a couple years, but since Roman and Estrada moved up and Inoue emerged and moved up... yeah.
