Yeah sure mericon. I suppose Vito Antuofermo would have gone the distance with GGG twice, once earning a draw.
Don't talk about boxers you don't know about shiny dome. Fact is Antuofermo was a better titlist than Lemieux would have been P4P, and based off that and how ridiculously overrated GGG IS on these boards mainly by the EE supporters it's safe to say he would have went the full distance against GGG. And Hagler got stiffed in the first fight, everyone knows that but you boxrec guy.
I'd say Golovkin hits harder without thinking about it too much. Who the BETTER fighter is, is another question. At this point I'm still inclined to rate Hagler above Golovkin without thinking about it too much either. I love GGG and he passes the eye test with flying colours, but I want to see a bit more of him before proclaiming that he walks on water. I wish some of the nutless "contenders" and "champions" floating around would grow a pair and step up.
I believe one could make a case for Hagler having more "sudden" power in his punches; he would catch you when you don't expect it. A bit like when Mosley ko'd iron chinned Margarito; nobody would rate Mosley the hardest puncher Margarito ever faced, yet he's the only one who truly gave him a concussion and destroyed him.
You see that in quite a few amateur fights, specially under the old style scoring. I remember thinking Lucian was doing pretty well too, when I first watched it. Check the punch tally though.
This is kind of it, and also GGGs 'secret' if you want to call it that. He doesn't really get the big 'one-hitter quitter' type KOs because he simply doesn't go looking for them. He seems content and confident in his ability to accumulate damage in a more cautious, methodical matter, taking few risks and rarely overcommiting to his punches. In many ways it's quite a conservative approach, and kind of at odds with GGGs reputation as a monster puncher, but to date it's proven remarkably effective.
Both hit hard but neither have Julian Jackson ko power . A high ko % can be deceiving . MH said one of the hardest he was hit was by Tony Sibson. MH despite his brawl with Hearns was more of a boxer puncher and counter puncher. He virtually destroyed Caveman Lee with jab and his one punch right hook ko of Obelmejias was brutal. MH had high ko % but this was more from sharp punches which shredded Alan Minter and Hamsho. Hagler was very accurate and physically very strong and this took its toll on his opponents. Golvokin is technically sound and is trained by Sanchez Terry Norris old trainer. He fights a similar seek and destroy style as TN but has a better chin and is not as reckless as TN. He doesn't waste punches like TN. His is good at cutting off the ring and applying relentless pressure and weakening his opponent so he can land heavy blows and then ko his opponent.
The ww's and lw's were confirmed ATG's! Great smaller men that went on and did very well in the higher divisions. No ATG's on G's resume as of yet! I do however think G hits harder than Hagler. But the level of opposition has nothing to do with how hard they hit.
Anybody know what marvin haglers in-ring weight was? Is it recorded anywhere? Even with making 160 that morning I think hagler was a good 170lbs later the same day at first bell. Middleweights today aren't much more than that even with an extra day to bulk up. With a weigh in the day before marvin could have come in 175 or more I feel. I doubt GGG is bigger than hagler...taller but that's about it. Certainly less bulky all over than "muscular marvin".
Golovkin is a harder hitter, and before anyone tries to proclaim I'm on some type of GGG bandwagon, I hate Golovkin and Hagler is my favorite fighter ever. Despite the number of knockouts Hagler wasn't some type of demonic puncher, he was an excellent boxer puncher with a good dig but he beat on a lot of foes, not struck them into oblivion with one immediate shot. I think Golovkin is overrated, especially concerning certain morons trying to proclaim ATG status bue one thing I don't dispute about Golovkin is his heavy hands
Let's see when he starts going the distance against Elite fighters if you change your opinion on that. Truth of the matter is, Hagler would melt through GGG'S entire resume right now like hot butter. None of GGG'S current/past victims would make it 12 against the 'Marvelous' one!
