    Emanuel Augustus.
    Zab Judah
    Corey Spinks
    Mike Faragan
Man there are dozens of guys who had that elite look skillset and just didnt quite get to the pinnacle.

Zab Judah....if he had a chin......could have been the GOAT for all we know. Same with Cory Spinks.

Frankie Gavin has disaapointed and is very skilled. However one thing that has been glaring is he can only look good against come forward fighters who are light punchers. Anything else and he stinks up the place.

I loved Judah, but the chin was the least of his weaknesses.

One man who' SHOULD have been a champion was Emmanuel Augustus. If he had a good manager & trainer from the beginning he would have been a champion. He never took himself seriously He fought to make $$$$$$$ & survive. He'd fight ANYONE, ANYWHERE. ANYTIME " Just give me time to get there" He fought many top ranked fighters on a few hours notice & made many of them look like idiots. His skills were incredible. Sadly his clowning in the ring , embarrassing top fighters made him many enemies. Referees penalized him repeatedly The number of times he got blatantly robbed o f decisions he clearly won was astronomical. I loved watching him fight & truly feel he should be inducted into the Boxing H O F
He is a classic example of a PRIZEFIGHTER !!

Which fights did Emmanuel take on extreme short notice, out of curiosity?

Orlando Canizales deserves a shout. He's already in the Hall of Fame but I wouldn't consider him as a GREAT because of his rather subpar opposition despite his incredible skills.

    Miguel Lora
    Marlon Starling
    Donald Curry

Magri? For me he was the epitome of Lawless hype.

As a kid everyone used to bang on about how great he was to me - I grew up in stepney and used to buy stuff from his sportshop when I was little - only to YouTubehis fights as an adult and think he looked absolutely awful by world standards.

Diosbelys Hurtado was slated to face Oba Carr in October 1997. Carr backed out of the fight, instead taking a fight days later against another opponent. Hurtado and Augustus were sparring partners leading up to the fight. Hurtado was told a few hours before the event started that his opponent had backed out. Augustus went to the promoter and asked if he could take Carr's spot on the show, agreeing to take a pay cut of half of what Carr was scheduled to be paid.

Carlos Wilfredo Vilches on two day notice, winning a decision

Corey Spinks, Judah, Fernando Vargas, Calderon, Nunn, David Reid, Chicanito Hernandez, Robert Garcia , Freddie Norwood, Mark Johnson, Joan Guzman, Zahiir Raheem, to name afew highly skilled fighters and just fell short of being great. Currently, undeniably it's Jorge Linares, but his career ain't over his best may be yet to come. Calderon is another good shout out.

Crazy story. Thanks for the details.

Do you know about the injury he received a few years ago? He was shot in the back of the head I believe. Awful stuff...
