Hardest hitter: Gennady or Hagler ?

I get what you mean with GGG's one punch power in those fights, the body shot against Macklin was devastating.
He is extremely heavy handed he seems to hurt opponents with what appear routine punches and the opponent immediately goes into survival mode pretty early in the proceedings.
He really is something else.

 

Just because a fighter from the past is chosen over a modern day fighter it doesn't always mean the fighter from the past is being viewed through rose tinted glasses. The fighter from yesteryear may simply be better.

Hagler was clearly superior to Golovkin in a number of ways. He could switch hit far better than Golovkin does, he moves better on the back foot, is better defensively had the better jab etc.

As for stamina, you think a fighter in the modern era of 12 rounds championship fights had better stamina than a fighter who fought in the 15 round era? That's like saying a middle distance runner has better stamina than a long distance runner.

As for who hit harder, it's clearly Golovkin, but he wouldn't put a dent in Hagler's chin.

 

I don't think Hagler could walk through Golovkin. If Hagler thinks he's going to walk down Golovkin and just swarm him like he did Hearns then Hagler could wind up on his ass. He'd have to outbox Golovkin, but that could be hard to do if Golovkin gets inside, crowds Hagler and then starts banging him with power shots. Marvin Hagler has never fought a bigger puncher than Golovkin.

 

Can't make up my mind on this. First inclination was 3G, but Hagler had quite a KO streak as well and beat his opponents brutally.

 

Man, Hagler once fought a Light Middleweight who had more power than himself. Hagler was not an all time great puncher.

 

There are plenty of 154 pounders in history who would cream Golokvins opponents in the same manner.

 

I don't know. I doubt there are many 154 pounders out there besides Robinson, Jackson and Hearns who could potentially stop Murray.

Hagler would be quite capable of fighting on the inside and going toe to toe with Golovkin if he chose.
Despite his fearsome reputation which he liked to cultivate Hagler was at heart a boxer but he had no problem if he had to go into the trenches.
He outfought and knocked out plenty of big punchers Hearns,Mugabi,Roldan and Sibson who could all take your head off.
Hagler had an ATG chin GGG ain't knocking him out and although I love Golovkin I think Hagler eke's out a decision.

 

Who is this 154 pounder that you claim had better power than Hagler? The way you so casually throw that out there makes me question your objectivity.

Besides, there are 50-ish former pro boxers out there who would likely argue with you.

 

Tommy Hearns.

 

I always wondered why Hagler had such a bizarre and abrupt decline. Besides the Hearns and Mugabi fight he wasn't really in any savage wars or beatdowns. And he was on the easy side of those fights punishment wise.

But he looked his absolute best in 83 and was already looking a little worse in 85 at only 30 years old.

 

Hopkins would cut through Golovkin's first 36 like butter. Hopkins having loses has no bearing on the fact that he would trash Golovkin's weak arse opposition. If Golovkin came up against Hopkins first 36 he wouldn't be undefeated, and he would have a KO loss as well. Golovkin fights in the weakest middleweight division of the last fifty years. At the time he fought them, none of his opposition would have been one of the ten best middleweights in the 90s. Geale, Macklin, Murray, Monroe, Stevens, Lemieux, lol, his opposition is laughable. In a weak arse middleweight division were guys like Geale, Rubio, and Wade were considered top 10 guys, you are trying to use that as proof that his resume is better. That is pure comedy.

 

Actually besides Jones Jr. Hopkins 160 pound opposition is considered soft.
