Hardest hitter: Gennady or Hagler ?

Golovkin may have gotten KO'd by Echols or Allen. Both guys would be his toughest opponent up to this point. What would Hopkins have done to Geale, Murray, Rubio, Lemieux, Macklin, and the rest of the scrubs that Golovkin has fought?

 

Compared to Golovkin's, Hopkins middleweight opposition is noticeably better. Outside of the fact that Hopkins would have made Golovkin his b!tch.

This is sheer nonsense. Scoring the first 6 rounds for Chilemba over Kovalev and having Ward beating him comfortably was not enough for you. Now you are launching into a crusade against Golovkin by suggesting Echols and Allen could have KO'd Golovkin and would have been his toughest opponents.

This isn't about resume lol, it's about pure power..... king GiGi clearly hits harder than hagler, you can see by how he torques his arms, and how his ALL of his opponents react to any of his punches that land. Guys like McClellan, Jackson, Hearns, Robinson, the ATG hitters at middleweight... golovkin definitely has ATG power but people just don't want to admit it.

When Hopkins was fighting professional stiff Anibal Miranda (8-8-1) on his 19th fight, wondering whether he should maybe step it up some day, GGG was relieving Milton Nunez (21-1-1) of his WBA belt. The only decent guy up to Hopkins' 36th fight is RJJ who gave BHop a drubbing.

A comparison of their respective resume's up to the point where Golovkin is now reveals GGG's resume to be a veritable lion's den compared to the soft porridge that Hopkins was slurping up. YDKSAB.

When GGG fought Geale (30-2) Hopkins was fighting Mercado (18-2) again because he couldn't beat him the first time round.
When GGG fought Rubio (59-6-1) BHop fought Steve Frank (15-2-1)
When GGG fought Macklin (29-4) BHop was somehow overcoming the great Melvin Wynn (15-17-1)

etc.

But I guess Akhbar lives in a world where Mercado, Frank and Wynn are better than Geale, Rubio and Macklin

It's funny how so many editorialize. You only ask about power but these dopes have to start talking about resume, head to head, ATG status, who they find more arousing.

Hagler wasn't really a guy who would just try and walk through anyone, other than the Hearns fight where there was clearly a lot of needle between both men. Hagler would box Golovkin as you say, show him angles, switch hit, move, box etc.

Even if he did stand and trade with Golovkin I'd doubt he'd be put on his ass and definitely not keep him there. Nobody ever really noticeably hurt Hagler, even huge hitters like Hearns and Mugabi. Sure Golovkin hit's hard, maybe even be the hardest hitter Hagler has faced as you say but that doesn't mean he could hurt Hagler let alone drop him. Hagler's chin is the kind of chin other granite chins are measured against, some guys just can't ever be stopped.

Benn was used to hitting guys and they would drop like they had been shot, but Eubank and Collins took it all. Matthysse is another guy with vaunted power but couldn't stop Provo who couldn't slip a shot if his life depended upon on it, McCall wasn't even defending himself in the rematch with Lewis but never looked hurt with Lewis landing clean shots, some fighters just have unbreakable chins and Hagler is one of those fighters. If Golovkin somehow were to stop Hagler it would be like how Chuvalo was stopped in his 2 stoppage losses, either by injury as in the Frazier fight or taking unanswered bombs but never going down like in the fight with Foreman.

On a side not Golovkin might have one of these unbreakable chins as well, he takes a lot of shots even in combination as in the Brook and Ouma fights but never looked like he was hurt, more perturbed if anything. Some chins were made to never be broken.

 

True but Hagler was more shop worn because he'd had a lot more pro fights by then. He retired 1 month shy of 33, having had 67 fights, Golovkin at the same stage had only 32 fights. Had Golovkin had that many fights and fought at the level Hagler had as well then I suspect Golovkin would be looking far from prime at 32 also.
