Love this fight. Saw it a few years ago, if I'm remembering correctly it's pretty brutal, with Coetzer taking a lot of heavy incoming before putting Du Plooy down. Thanks for the share.
Du Plooy was always fun to watch. Coetzer too, but in the big picture Johnny had the better wins imho. It's actually somewhat unfair because Du Plooy was somewhat slack in his training in his later career, whereas Coetzer was a gym rat. Fun fact: Du Plooy ended up as a trainer late in life (he's passed away now) and said that all the money he'd made, he spent on coke, and the only way he'd ever see a million again would be if he won the lottery. I never liked Du Plooy when he was boxing but I felt bad for him reading that interview. Check out the Du Plooy / James Broad fight for a fun finish

That was a great slugfest. I posted the same link several years ago. This is a mostly forgotten and underrated fight.
Coetzer was underrated imo. Superb conditioning and stamina. That alone would make him a top ranker in today's era. The choice to fight Bowe , Bruno and Foreman in a 6 month period was a crazy one as the damage he took in those fights ended his career. He should never have took that Foreman fight so soon. George was still a brute savage in 93. Another very underrated HW imo. Du Ploy may have had better wins , but i honestly don't think he would have seen past round 1 against Foreman. Not many guys post Lewis would have dished out a beating on Coetzer like that. With his toughness , endurance and good ring movement , i definitely think he could have picked up a belt.
Prime mustache Coetzer. It was never again in such fine form. DuPlooy, who I adore (my avatar), is clearly shamed from the intros by Coetzer's face follicles.
I liked Pierre Coetzer. I agree with everything Outstock said in the above post. Coetzer was underrated. Gave Bowe and Bruno very tough fights then went in with Foreman. DuPlooy was a good puncher but sometimes proved a bit of a front-runner. I think it was Renaldo Snipes he just seemed to quit against.
