If Kell Brook can't make 147lbs a fight with Cotto looms at 154lbs. Who wins ?

Kell Brooks has said he will decide in the next few weeks if will continue to fight
at welterweight and fight Spence or move to junior middleweight. Assuming
Canelo makes a move to mw that leaves Cotto as the big name in the division.
KB has previous mention fighting Cotto. Assuming Cotto beats Kirkland Laing
who do you see winning this fight at 154lbs ?

I know that everybody is high on brook based on his showing with GGG, but the matter of fact is, he still took a beating.
    I pick Cotto.

Guess what... Cotto would take an even bigger beating against GGG. So that's somewhat flawed logic. Cotto took a hamburger face inducing beating against Austin Trout, Brook who's roughly the same size as Austin and Margarito would rip him to pieces with his counters.

Ha2x not necessarily, the beating brook took is too recent. Cotto took his beating in the hand of margarito, pacman and trout as you point out (not as much as the previous 2). Cotto still managed to comeback each time and perform admirably against mayweather and canelo, 2 p4p better fighter than brook, sandwiched between that also a great run under roach.
I have a better gauge where Cotto at, not so much of brook after the beating.
Though I agree, Cotto got no chance against GGG.

I agree with your point about Brook, but I don't rate the old Cotto. IMHO his career resurrection under Roach was a bit of an illusion, he just happened to catch Martinez at the right time.

So I'll pick Brook here, but not against the top 154s like Lara, Andrade, ...

I'd lean towards Brook. Could be an interesting back and forth affair. Both can slug it out phonebooth style and both can fight on the back foot.

Brook would retire cotto. Diva Cotto would not take the fight anyway.

Only way this happens is if Brook can get a shot at vacant IBF title. Cotto may fight if Brook is a title holder.

I think Brook beats Cotto if it did happen.

Cotto from inactivity and Brook fighting above WW makes this an interesting fight. I think it would be entertaining. I feel if they both have fights before then, Cotto scheduled and who knows with Brook, a lot can be cleared up as to who I fancy to win.

I've felt that way about Cotto since he lost to Trout a few years back. I don't think he's had a resurrection in his career, rather he had good matchmaking for those fights leading up to his match with Canelo.

Anyway i don't think you can count Miguel out completely in this one. I think it all depends on how much Cotto has left in the tank; I'm pretty sure he's in his mid 30's now and eventually father time will catch up to him.

Anyway at 154 lbs, this has the opportunity to be a great, action pack matchup.

How much as Cotto got left? He's always been a bit undersized for 154 and while Brook looked in good nick against GGG he still lost clearly.

Cotto had one great fight against Martinez and then hasn't really set the world on fire. He's world class but he's had his shares of wars and someone with Brooks timing, power and freshness could have tip the fight in Brooks favour.

Its a fight id like to see but cant see Brook taking it if it was on offer.

i think the plan for brook a 154 will be

    vacant belt win
clash with 'beefy smith' for a 'unification fight' and domestic dust up (as smiths next fight is now the WBO)
mega PPV fight against the legend of cotto (and skim over the fact hes on the decline now)

not sure in what order what the last 2 will be in but i reckon that'll be hearns plan

    Canelo fights at caneloweight
Jermall Charlo is moving upto MW now (prob soon followed by his brother)
Lara has already stated he'll prob move up there

that leaves andrade really who isnt a massive name and isnt excatly in a position to demand fights

Can see brook having quite abit of success up there, he just needs to forget about khan now as its clear hes given up on a serious boxing career and just wants to cash out on taking as little gambles as possible

on another note the Middlweight division has the potential to be become brilliant soon ... as long as all the top contenders fight each other, would love a super 6 sort of tournament
    GGG
    Charlo #1
    Charlo #2
    Canelo
    Lara

I honestly think Brook could clean house at 154.

His chin was beastly against Golovkin and he clearly has skills and power as well.

Cotto will be roadkill against Brook, you can take it to the bank.
