Did Maidana ruin Broner or is Broner just a massive hypejob?

It sounds stupid to say but Broner has ball and chains on his feet in the ring. He became an athletic plodder soon after he won his first title. Foot movement and the way he wants to engage is why I favored Maidana to beat him going into that fight.

Agree with the shoulder roll and movement, but a hype job is a bit too far don't you think, but I get your point.

the pbf floyd comparison was always a bunch of garbage. only similaritys is broner likes to roll with the punches like floyd but floyd has many differ ways to play defense unlike broner.

broner can fight tho . broner just lacks the hard work dedication .

He looks good against domestic Argentinians and club fighters. Honestly, that's what makes him look good. But anytime he fights B level Argentinian or American guys he looks bad and gets beatdown.

Now, that is true. Any way, he chosen the short cut to greatness and fell short. But I still think he is very talented and have champion's heart.

    Broner is terribly average

but he did show in the Maidana fight that is a pretty damn tough...however that was a once in a lifetime beating and could have ruined him.

Broner would be a terrific fighter IF: He had focus, wasn't so static (better footwork) AND had a higher workrate.

He spent half of the fights where he was getting outboxed shaking his head pretending he isn't getting hit.

He has never lost at 130. Or 135. Or 140.

What you're stressing isn't wrong. Just that the weight division of competition, I personally believe, is an equal or greater factor.

Broner was a hypejob that should've lost to Ponce De Leon and Quintero. He is a talented fighter, but his dumb brain negates him to the level of a contender at best.

His main problem was his lack of movement. His size and physicality was a major part of his gamelplan. When he was a larger, stronger lightweight he didn't need to move much, he could stay in the pocket. He tried to keep the same
exact style against bigger guys (when he should've moved more) and it costed him.

The OP is clearly attempting a propaganda war vs. Broner however. Broner overall was/still potentially
is a good fighter. Is he a great fighter? No. Is Broner potentially a top 10 guy in every division (135,140,147) he could campaign at? Yes.

Notice I said potential. I've no clue if he'll ever get right at this point.

Hamed is a called a hypejob (I disagree) because he was clowned by a legit ATG in his prime. Not to mention he has better wins and skill than Broner. Meanwhile Broner gets a vicious beatdown from B level Maidana and hasn't beaten a live body and people want to be hesitant to label him hypejob.

I do think Hamed is a greater fighter.

I think it's more that Maidana and Porter were bad style match-ups for Broner.

Broner doesn't have the footwork to get away from Maidana or Porter.

He's also still relatively young at this time, and has a few more yrs to solidify his credentials, and should he meet Burns again, he'll regain his title, and a fight with Crawfsh might be a game changer in terms of how he's viewed in terms of possible HOF credentials.

Not saying he's worthy, or close ATM, but a win over Crawdaddy and he'd certainly be worth consideration.
And JUST IMO, he'd mop the floor with Bud.

I think Crawford beats Broner handily. He has better footwork, defense, and probably hits harder.

@tinman Broner had a lot of potential and a lot of people had high hopes for him, but yeah Maidana put one on him. But if AB was just a hypejob like your insinuating here, he wouldn't have mounted a comeback down the stretch to win 4 or 5 rounds in the fight. That said, who the heck did Ledwaba beat that made him so elite when Pacquaio beat him? NOBODY!!!!!
