Triple G is 35 and taking his first step up fight. Think about that for a second. Toney never backed down from a challenge, and went from MW to HW. Triple G has never shown his skill set against an elite fighter. Toney did in multiple weight classes by the time he was Triple G's age.

Yeah, he cried like a baby and even had Benn shaking his head and laughing at him. The whole UK TV show audience was laughing at Eubank. It was embarrassing.
After that, Eubank never let the words "james Toney" come out of his mouth again.

At his best, Toney would definitely win. Even at 160 though, he was capable of some terrible performances - the Tiberi "win" had politicians clamouring for an investigation into boxings corruption!

Peak Toney, with that masterful counter-punching and iron chin? Yeah, he wins a decision clearly.

Of course you seem to forget or maybe avoid the whole facts which were that Eubank and Benn were about to engage in arguably the biggest SMW fight ever at that time and still one of the biggest whilst Toney was soon to be facing or had just faced Prather who was 10-10-0 and 0-5-0 in his 5 fights previously.
In fact look at the level Benn and Eubank fought at overall and then at the level Toney fought at, at SMW overall and then Toney shouting about them hundreds of miles away is even more amusing

gstring is not going anywhere near a top middleweight. gstring is a taxi driver and fights pedestrians for fares.

Agree. Don't soil the name of a Fighter with proximity to a marathon runner.

James toney, teak tough and great counter puncher from great defensive posture, who can stay in the pocket all night long, also faster than ggg.

    toney close UD

It's fresh in my memory how on International TV, then MW champion James Toney called out both Benn and Eubank who sat side by side at the TV station, and when Toney asked them "which of you teo bums want to get it first", they both looked at each other with fear on their faces and remained quiet as chuirch girls.
To his credit, Benn actually said that he would fight him and stayed some what composed under Toney's ruthless verbal assault, but not Eubank. Eubank had all of the appearance of a guy who wanted to get up and run away from the school bully.
When Toney warned Eubank if he saw him on the street he was going to slap him and his Mum, the tears from Eubank's eyes got moist and started flowing. I'll never forget how the UK audience was laughing at seeing a grown man, a boxer, being made to cry. Toney won over the Brit audience and took over the show.
Eubank and Benn were scared of Toney, and for good reason.
Toney would have wiped the floor with Eubank, but Toney-Benn would have been a good fight.

If you actually believe this, cool, but you're 100% wrong. Floyd is the master of fighting from the pocket, and in harms way. You don't know enough about boxing to have worthy input RE: Boxing discussion.

So who was Toney facing when talking so tough hundreds of miles away... Prather with a then record of 10-10-0, and 0-5-0 in his last 5 fights leading up.
Yes the tough talk but now lets look at what Toney, Eubank and Benn did at SMW...

look at the level Toney was fighting at, when SMW champ

1993 he wins the title from iran barkley a fighter who years earlier was blown away by nigel benn in 1 round and pummelled to a loss by a shot roberto duran barkley went onto lose 11 out of 25 fights following this fight and never beat anyone who was remotely good in doing so,the guy was so desperate he was even plying his trade as a HW in the late 90's against the likes of berbick and they say this era is a joke

govonor chambers a guy with a career record of 9 wins 7 losses, all 3 fights prior to toney were ko losses!

ricky thomas: won 11 lost 14,the 4 fights he had prior to toney all losses!

glenn thomas:won 29 lost 8, lost to roy jones prior to toney and finished his career with a first round ko loss to jeff lacy.

danny garcia: won 30 lost 22, was coming off losses to chris pyatt (a steve collins victim) lamar parks etc

larry prather: won 19 lost 24,lost his last 5 fights prior to the toney fight even losing to nicky piper

tony thornton: won 37 lost 7,lost to chris eubank a year earlier.

anthony hembrick: won 31 lost 8,lost to maske prior to toney and orlin norris a year earlier.

tim littles: won 27 lost 3,maybe one of his better wins, had fought mainly bums with the exception of a close UD over frankie liles, went onto lose to frankie liles in a 2nd contest following the toney fight.

vinsom durham: won 21 lost 37 enough said.

charles williams: won 37 lost 7 drew 3,lost to maske prior to toney.
(this post was improvised from ESB great Silencer, on one of his great threads)and finally the Jones fight and, That was Jones big SMW victory where Toney was allegedly weight weakened, other than that Jones didnt do much at SMW.

Eubank and Benn though had some good genuine SMW victories over world class SMWs.

Yes if you are taken in by someone talking into a camera hundreds of miles away and not facing top comp at that time in the division compared to fighters who faced several top fighters at the weight, you crack on

^ Toney was on the show as a guest appearance because he was the champion trying to make a fight with Benn and/or Eubank.
He outright said on International TV, "Let's fight" and ended with "There are no boxers in Britain, only bums"!
In America, that's more than enough trash talk for SRL, Hagler, or Hopkins to make the fight, but I guess those two Brit fighters were too civilized. :boxing:
