Does size count even just a little bit?

Maybe because they had no access to the drugs that help them reach a physical potential useful to boxing?

Maybe the training back then only allowed a giant to reach physical potential as a circus strong man or wrestler rather than a boxer and they had to wait until steroid programmes could enhance what could be achieved as a boxer?

Ok I will reword it, why hasn't it increased very much since the 1990s when it increased a whole lot from the 1980s to the 1990s after a time (20 years perhaps)when growth patterns had already levelled off in America?

I am not a expert in population growth. I don't particularly care either.

Man has got bigger, it's evolution, it's a fact. Outliers have always been around and always will be.

I've said it 1000 times and I'll say it again a sub 200 fighter no longer exists at HW.

You're missing an important point pal, neither did Joe Louis.....

Yes but maybe in boxing, using traditional methods guys Joe Louis's size could reach a greater physical potential than a tall gangly giant? Maybe that's why The great trainers never scouted for them, ever think of that?

Giants might have needed more "help" to achieve their full boxing potential? Later when things "changed" trainers could scout for a giant once it was possible to get everything out of a guy that size.

Or maybe as average height increased men git taller therefore skilled men got taller.

I have always accepted man has got bigger, but not much bigger after the 1960s. There was no growth boom after 1960s in America yet after the steroid craze there was a huge leap. What do you make of that?

It doesn't work like that. What film shows is that giant boxers before steroids fought like oafs. After steroids less so.

Rocky Marciano = 2.7 pounds her inch.
Deontay Wilder = 2.9 pounds per inch.

Make of that what you will.

What do you mean it doesn't work like that?

That's exactly how it does work. I'm no expert in population growth but I have a complete understanding of Normal Distribution and other such models.

As average height increases those over 6'3 become a larger number, therefore those who are skilled over 6'3 also become a larger number.

PEDS have been around since long before the 90's. However 24 hour weigh ins and 12 round maximum fights haven't been. I think that's a bigger indicator of change.

That all makes perfect sense. Completely. Only thing is the time line. It just does not add up unless what you are saying happened by 1970 at the latest.

I'll defer to Manny Steward who said, I used to think once a boxer got past 6'3" he loses coordination. But not anymore.

I think I've got to the bottom of your line of thinking now. It's taken me a while because you speak a lot in rhetorics.

    Correct me if I'm wrong

Past SHW fighters like Carnera, Willard and others would be much better under modern conditions due to PEDs and would be elite level. Current SHW fighters like Joshua, Fury, Wlad would be much worse under classical conditions without PEDs and would be fringe contenders. The more naturally skilled men are all below 220 because after that it's diminished returns.

    Does that sum it up?

He's trying to say a natural size advantage is a disadvantage after a certain point but a steroid induced size advantage is an advantage no matter what......
