No, it shouldn't. Clean hits should, you can be on the back foot and land the better shots but most judges will give it to the aggressor over you just because he pressed the action it's a flawed scoring system all the way around

As long as you hurt/land clean punches on your opponent more often than he on you, then YES, defense should be factored in.

If you're running around the ring like a scared Hen without landing anything significant, how can you justify giving that round to the runner, unless of course he lands the more telling blows.

With two master boxers they may not even throw a punch at all, in case they get countered.

Hey, why even have them in the ring together at the same time. It would be easier for the judges if they took turns to stand in the centre of the ring and show us their feints, slips and dodges. Maybe the judges could throw tennis balls at them if the scoring gets close in the later rounds.
