James Toney was great to watch and i don't want to comment on a vs GGG scenario. We know all of Toneys story and we are not yet done in the GGG career so ima wait to compare when all is over for both of them :)

    Fair assessment.
I'll say this what was peak Toney at middleweight? Toney did fight better competition, however he did struggle and many of his best wins are debatable. I felt he lost to Tiberi as do most. Many feel he lost to Reggie Johnson. I think it was razor close and could of gone to Johnson although I haven't watched that fight in years. Same with McCallum fights. Plus he was losing big to Nunn but rallied and won in a great performance.
So what I'm saying is when Toney faced good competition at middleweight he often found himself very evenly matched, he clearly was not levels above the top talent in the division.
Triple GGG has not faced anyone as good as McCallum or Johnson. But he has destroyed everyone he has faced and it's not as bad of quality as many of his haters want to make out. Lemieux, Murray, Spence could easily have competed and beaten guys on Toney's resume. They all have some very good plus skills, whether power or speed etc. and they can't hang with Triple G.
It is an interesting debate but anyone that says it's an easy night's work for either man is either a troll or doesn't understand the sport.

Great to hear from someone who knows his stuff :) When I looked at GGG from a skills perspective, it really surprised me when Oscar and Bernard were so keen for the newly crowned Champion Lemieux to take him on. I was more than puzzled when 2 of the best fighters from their eras made such a serious miscalculation. Lemieux had glaringly obvious defensive flaws when he started throwing his wide punches, and i couldn't help but wonder what those two great old fighters were seeing that i wasn't. Well, we saw the outcome, and its little wonder they have shied away from the idea of Canelo facing GGG.

GGG showed them that he could actually really box, and he can fight going forward or backwards. He is a fighter with a granite chin, with the power to end a fight at any moment , and the ability to defend in such a subtle way that he can slip a punch without anybody even noticing. Hes special. We have a couple of years ahead of us to witness just how special he might be, and once he unifies all of the titles, I think he will go up in weight and shock more than just a few people.

My guess is that he wants to break Hopkins' title defence record.

then hes got enough on his plate, that will take another 5 years at least, more likely 7 or 8 even with 2 fights a year
