Floyd gets very lofty praise from me despite not being a grade A warrior - He's arguably 10th best of all time and is a Top 40 ATG.

    * Miura and Berchelt are set to face for the WBC title. They're out...for now.
    * Lomachenko and Corrales are set to face off, according to reports. They're out....for now.
    * Gamboa has his next fight set for March after signing with GBP. Seems content to mark time against the Rene Alvarados and Hylon Williams's of the sport right now. Maybe he doesn't belong on the list, either.
    * Salido hasn't been all that active and seems to be gearing up for a cash-out fight. Walters is coming off a soul-shattering loss to Loma and wasn't active prior to that.

Just about everyone listed is affiliated with Top Rank or Golden Boy, so that will make match-making difficult, too.

So, we're at the next level of 130lb fighters. Since Farmer and Fortuna are both PBC fighters, it's likely that fights with them could be made and that would be acceptable. Walsh is undefeated and has a couple of nice wins under his belt. He's fine.

But if he were to face a (past prime) three division titleholder along with that in a reasonably short period of time, that's still not really holding the belt hostage. The only way the belt gets held hostage is if he faces multiple unranked/unheralded fighters in a row and only fights intermittently.

But since it's only been two weeks, I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt.

The sad thing is, Gervonta and TMT are not looking at it the way you are lol. They are looking immediately towards 'getting some experience' and for all we know this could even entail overlooking the top rated mandatories.

Or...it might not. It's too early to start grinding gears until he find out who he faces, Gan.

You really don't know much about boxing. Tommy hearns made 3 title defenses before he fought leonard, so by your logic Davis is granted 3 title defenses before stepping up against guys like Loma or Berchelt. /thread

Let's wait and see how the first year of his career pans out. We'll know better how his career is being managed in 2-3 fights time...

Nah, pilgrim. When you challenge for and then win a championship belt, it is your proclamation to the world that the training wheels have come off, you've pulled up your big-boy pants and are no longer afraid to fight anybody within the weight class the belt represents. Especially a new champion. If you don't want to be a target, don't don the bullseye.

Oscar is many, many levels above Genaro, Corrales and JLC. Like I said before Floud has never been exposed to a guy as good as prime Oscar. His brain has never had to deal with that.

Like I said earlier give him some time you act like he's been a titleholder at 130 for two years and done nothing. He has the right to face his mando next he's just making his first defense FFS.

You've got alts, too. Besides, it's only one alt that's still active. When he's been banned from every alt, that's saying something.

Floyd was at 130 calling out guys, Mosley was already outgrowing the LW division, and was big enough to compete with the WW'S, which was exactly what he did by skipping 140 entirely to seek out De La Hoya. Floyd still fought at 130 up until 2002... When that fight was even being mentioned as a possibility Shane was already contemplating his move two divisions north. Lol
