Why is he taking anything? Why? Is his health bad?

A ban would be for WBC-sanctioned events. Other federations like WBA, WBO, IBF, etc., will back the ban beacuse he failed agreed-upon VADA testing and they're not going to buck that.

Which means there's no payoff. The promoter isn't going to shell out huge bucks to Povetkin and world-class oppponents to keep him fighting in Russia with no chance at a pot of gold at the end of his rainbow -- he's just going to lose money and never get a title shot for his guy, so why would he do that? And why would anyone (other than need-a-payday guys on the lower end of the credibility scale) go fight him if beating him means nothing because he's not ranked. Not to mention that he'll be roided to the gills since without sanction there's no need for testing.

No. But he won't ever fight for a world title ever again.

Only fighter i remember testing positive for enormous amounts was Mikey Bey.
But he had his own BS reason for it that kinda made sense.

I may be wrong, but this just means he can't fight for anything WBC related.

That won't stop them from being able to schedule fights at all. His team will probably have to pay opponents a bit more to make the trip.

The only cheats who fail tests for large amounts are stupids and poors -- either they don't have someone in camp who knows how to mask and flush and work around the systems (thus stupid) or they can't afford one (thus poor).

Whose going to want to fight him if he's not ranked by any of the sanctioning bodies? He'll get bodies , but nobody of any worth.

His bouts won't be sanctioned by any of the 3 major belts.

Pretty much relegates his level of opposition to those ready for a cash-out.

The same reasons the other 99.99% boxers who never win a title keep fighting. Money and fans, mostly money. They'll frame this as a setup job done for political reasons, and he'll keep drawing enough to make good money.
